:banghead: :banghead:

i was workin on routing the harness today, and looking for a mounting place to put the ECU and when i was trying to plug in the ECU to the ends on the harness they don't match!!!!! :swear: i can't believe it, i bought the engine and transmission over a year ago and the faggots i bought it from fucking gave me the wrong ECU, now i have to go back to them and hope the fuckers didn't lose it or give it away with some other car :swear: goddamnit i swear if they gave it away or anything i am going to make them pay for another ECU for a '97 Z28!!! :swear: i need to go kill something...

97 is OBD 2, they suck. What color are the harness end plugs?. I would do the swap to OBD 1 if I was you because the OBD 1 is more program friendly and the swap has been dyno proven for 10 Horsepower. Just some food for thought though.

red, blue, clear, and like a brown (i think). what is entailed in a obd 1 swap? would i still be able to use the hypertech PP i bought for the '97?

i take that back, its not brown, its like a smoke color, so i'm guessing black. maybe its grey, but i'm pretty sure its black...

Well you would need a OBD 1 PCM, which you may already have. I have to look at the color of my spare harness but I think you might need a new harness and you can sell your hypertech cause you will get a much bigger gain from programming it with your PC or laptop. I have some software I could send you with a tune already worked up. If you look at 96 & 97 worked LT1's. They have all switched to OBD 1 cause your limited on how far you can mod the car without running into check engine and driveability issue's, not that there aren't ways around it on OBD 2 but it more difficult and you don't get the same gains.

i'm pretty new to electronics, what is PCM? and what does it do? a new harness is out of the question cuz i already spent 650 getting this harness custom grafted w/ the engine harness of the '92 so it is now all plug and play except for the ECU problem...

FormulaLT1

If it is a custom harness it has to work with OBD 1 and thats most likely why its not fitting into your current PCM(powertrain control module), after 94+ the ECM(engine control module) was now called PCM because it also had control over transmission as well as engine. Who built your harness?

Edit- Check out this OBD 1 harness pinpoints. I bet this is a perfect match to your car http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#1995_pcm_pinouts

no it's supposed to fit on the factory ECU. i sent the engine harness from the '92, and the engine harness from the '97 to lt1350. lt1350 grafted them together into one harness so i could plug it into the car, and into the lt1... so i think i need an obd 2... give me a couple minutes i'll get a pic of the ends to ya...

those pinouts look right to me...

here are the end pics tell me what you think...

i know for a fact that those pinnouts are from a '97 z28, but is it possible for me to plug a obd 1 into it? cuz they look the same judging by the pic u sent me...

if i hooked up an obd1 to my harness, which was on a factory obd 2 car, would everything still work?

I just looked it up and you can swap the the PCM's with a harness change. So your good to go on swapping a OBD1 PCM and could probably sell your old one on ebay. Good luck

not trying to annoy you, i'm just double checking. you're saying that i can hook up an obd 1 to this harness and everything will run just fine? no check engine lights, and it won't mess up the engine?

FormulaLT1

The sensor's are all the same. So yes the harness and control on the 2 different systems should be the same and no it will not cause any damage. I just looked it up in www.pcmforless.com (http://www.pcmforless.com/) check the faq. page. You just swap the 2 and no nothing will mess up. After all both PCM's were used with that harness and that tranny and engine. So it would run the same if it came from the factory with it.

What year car?, what engine is in it?.what tranny? Cause if you don't have a 94 or 95 LT1 Auto my software is useless to you.

ok thanks much!!!

you said it would be useless without 3.73, do you mean that if i upload it now it will not work right, and the speedo and shift points would be screwed up, or that it just wont help performance much?

I cant do anything with tunercat on this computer, but when i get home i will try it out, is there a definition file in the zip somewhere?

Thanks again...

FormulaLT1
02-23-2005, 12:00 PM
Well tunercat is for XP since you can't go into DOS to download that file without tunercat and yes that file is for 3.73's. It would mess up your speedo but not shift points and you really should change those gears anyway though like I have said they are hurting your performance big time.

John

i mean the tunercat tuner, the program they use to make the tuned bin file, i should be able to open it up in that and change the gear ratios to correct the speedo.

And i would love to switch to 3.73's but i dont have the money...

thanks

Yes, tunercat can be used to change the gear ratio.
