Safe to flush engine?

i want to do an engine flush on my 96 civic with d16y7. are there any reasons why it wouldnt be a good idea?

Whatever you do, don't let any tap water get into the cooling system. Like those prestone flush kits that you hook up a garden hose to. Don't use it. Honda designed the cooling system so that you can drain alomost every bit of coolant from the motor. Then you refill it.

I thing he was talking about an oil flush whtteg. :) I would do it. Your engine is used to that build up in there. Removing it will expose the small nicks and scratches in the cylinder walls that the build up used to smooth out. This could cause exsessive blowby, which in turn can lead to blown seals and many other problems. Honda's usually don't get to dirty anyhow. Leave it alone.

an off topic question: is there any benefit to upgrading to a larger radiator on a prettyy much stock engine? all i have is intake, cat back, plugs and wires on 93 octane to smooth out my engines roughness. its really crappy on 87.

Yea I see, did not think about and oil flush. I agree 100% with you, oil flushes are just asking for trouble.

But hey at least he will know about the coolant flushing now ;)

No there would be really no benifit to you with your setup.

yea, i was going to say on lower millage cars its fine because, as privatebigandrew said, the oil fills in all the gaps and cracks in older engines. if anything you could switch over to a synth blend oil. may make the engine start/run a little smoother without breaking down the oil seals

I run my daily driven turbo car on a 1/2 size PWR radiator, it runs cool and never overheats. You won't get anything out of a full size rad except a bit more weight.
