We have a '90 RX-7 non-turbo automatic-we're looking for the ECU. My boyfriend keeps putting off looking at the original to get the numbers off of it(the car is not parked at the house). Does anyone know the #'s/letters off of the ECU-What other years fit? Also does anyone have one possibly for sale(reasonable or maybe even free:p)-we believe this is what's wrong with the car but we're not 100%-we just couldn't pass the car up for only $200. Thanks for any help-Laura

Wow, $200 sounds like a great deal! What is exactly wrong with it (another words, what is it doing)? I kind of doubt it is the ECU. These cars are actually easy to work on once you have had a little experience with them.
Also, I believe the ECU that you will need will be a N351. I am pretty sure that is a 90 n/a ECU.

My boyfriend is a mechanic-but this is the first time he's worked with this type of engine(yes I know-a lot of people have said he should not try to work on it if he's not familiar with it). It has spark & everything-the person we got the car from said the engine was bad-but he was in no way a mechanic & it looks as though someone was adding misc parts to it(hoses, wires ect) to try & fix the problem. Thanks for the info by the way. My boyfriend figures if it is the engine or he can't fix the problem he wants to put a bigger engine in the car. There's really nothing wrong with the car other than it won't start-the body is great-no rust-just the paint is chipping away. The interior is there, the leather seats are ripped up, but otherwise it's clean. I don't know-we'll see what happens

all S5 non-turbo ecu's work (89-91).
btw my turbo ecu was $100 and it came with an FCD.

Tell him to pull out each upper sparkplug, pull the EFI fuse (dr. side engine bay) and test compression on each rotor. That will be your first step in checking the engine. I have bought several RX-7s in which it was assumed by mechanics that the engine was bad to find out a few bucks later I had a great running car.
Also Drftk1d, I believe she was stating that the car was $200, and not the ECU quote.

The ECU works for both the auto and 5-speed. I have done 3 auto to 5-sp conversions, and the ECU stays in the car, I just unplug the Automatic tranny computer, and leave the automatic engine ECU (N351) in the car.

Thanks for the info-Every time I see them listed somewhere, they state it's for auto or stick(I thought there was a difference).
NuTbAgSaN Just let me know what you come up with, Thanks again.
