After Market Oil Cooler

On an '89 4.3, after the stock oil cooler setup is removed, is the block capable of accepting an oil filter? The after market setup would thread onto a stock, non-external cooler, style port/connection/thingy.

Why would you remove the oil cooler for?

If you really want to remove the factory engine oil cooler, you will need to buy a non-cooler OEM oil filter adaptor. Just remember, heat is the enemy and oil is the first engine coolant.

The only remotely logical reasons that I can think of for removing the stock Oil cooler is because it has developed a leak in one or more of the lines or fittings, or because you are planning to add a bigger, better cooler than the stock cooler. :uhoh:

Which is it? Or am I even close? If you have developed leaks in the lines, you can buy them very cheaply online. Please post back with more info on your problem or exactly what you're trying to do. :naughty:

I wanted to replace the stock leaky, bulky, and in my opinion, not very efficent setup with an after market setup that incorporates a tranny cooler, to kill three birds with one stone. As the after market coolers will only connect to spin on oil filter connections, I wanted to know, without taking out the stock cooler to check, if it was so.

What are you talking about, the engine transmission and oil cooler are incorporated into the main front rad.

Actually done right he can be much more efficent...

For the tranny cooler, block off the rad then install a seperate tranny cooler (tranny coolers are much more efficient then our rads) You could probably rig a similar set up for oil...
