Hi,
No mods needed! I replaced my headlights (part #9004), the fog bulbs (part # H3) and the corners (part # 1157) with HID's.
Got them all on eBay.
9004's were about $12.99
H3's were $19.00
1157's were $9.99
Hope this helps!
Geoff

Those bulbs on e-bay are just replacement wannabees. Some are better then others. Be careful, you get what you pay for. 80/100 Watt bulbs tent to melt the wiring harness in some Maximas. True HID's for the Maxima are around 400 bucks. They look nothing like the bulbs your buying. If you look at www.maxima.org in the for sale forums you will find a member named 97gles who sells Hanabi HID kits in blue or purple. It's a plug and play kit. The light from this system is nothing short of amazing, and nothing at all like the standard 9004 replacement zenon gas charged bulbs.
JC Whitney has bulbs called Diamond Blues which are standard 9004 replacements that emit a HID color light. They are street legal, look great and will not harm your car's electrical system.
