I've got a trial edition of PS CS, and im trying to do a color change, every tutorial i read shows how the lasso tool cuts out perfect regions in a picture, liike a wheel or a windsheild, is there anyway better than freehanding it on there? im probably just making it harder than it seems

it takes ALOT of time.
You have to go really slow when using it.
If the car is a uniform color throughout, you can always use the magic select tool and change the color that way

two words, polygonal lasso
i use this, it's easier than free handing, i roughly select the area i want (making sure there is a little excess), then change colour, then use the eraser to get a nice clean edge.
