help with ebrake. . . please. . .

The ebrake on my 98 cavy wont catch. I've been told that all i have to do is tighten the wire on the handle so I've taken the center console out and have no ideal what to do from here.

Can anyone help?

What exactly do you mean by won't catch? Is the ratchet mechanism not working? If the e-brake adjustment is off try adjusting the rear brakes first before you mess with the cables. 9 times out of 10 this will solve the problem.

by wont catch i mean that when i pull up the ebrake it doesnt brake. Its 5 speed so when i park and dont leave it in gear it will roll if im on an incline. i checked the rear brakes when i changed the tires last week and they appeared to have plenty of pad left.

might have to inspect your rear drums and make sure that the Oval is on the lever mechanism. Or even if you have any pads left. while your down there inspect the e-brake line for breakage.

cable snapped or need adjusting! To check! lay underneath locate the cable and yank on it and see if it come loose if so it's broke! I snapped a cable test driving a 2nd Gen RX-7! Tried to handrake turn and it went 'ping'! Knew the guy though, just told him that it was f*cked! It went quite easy though!

Ok, thanks guys ill check under the car in the morning and check back if i still have problems.
