"Door open" light stays on

I am having problems with the light in my truck, After I close the door, The dash light stays on,("Door Open") light as well as the dome light,and cargo light at the top of the cab,in the back outside.
It doesn't happen every time, But it will 90% of the time. Sometimes it will take hours for it to go out. I know normally it goes out about 30 seconds to a minute after the door is closed, But I can ride down the road 20 or so miles before it cuts out,and after I arrive home, It can be hours before it cuts out,and I have neighbors calling, telling me I left my lights on, LOL.

Is this a common problem, Or any ideas what to do to fix it? I dont want to pull the fuse, Wife drives the truck, and says she needs the light,and I like to try to fix problems instead of patching it up if possible.

BTW,
It's a 1998 F-150, 4WD, with a triton V8, 5.4 litre. Power windows and locks.

Lube all the door latches, if it is an extended cab, be sure to get the upper and lower rear door latches as well. The door switches are on the latches inside the door.

Lubed the door hinges and everything I could find...LOL
After several day's , It is still properly going off as it should. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. It has saved us alot of headaches, As well as cash :-)
