timing question

I was told that if the timing marks on a DOHC are all aligned that that the motor has to be in time.
I asked if it was possible that the timing could still be out, and I was told that there was no way it could be out.
But I was under the impression that the ignition can be signaled on the wrong rotation of the crank. Or does the crank signal the plugs for every rotation of the crank.
I need verification on which is correct because I am having a no start on my 98 rodeo (v6 3.2L).

please help and advise.

thanks in advance

I don't have access to a service manual so I don't have exact details, but to set valve timing, you need to find TDC for cyl #1, then line up the marks on the cam sprockets to the mark on the crank pulley. If you feel your truck jumped time, you need to address that as it will happen again. You have an idler & a tensioner/hydraulic pusher for the timing belt in there. The water pump is also t-belt driven.

just because the marks ar eall lined up does not mean the timing is right
if the cam gears were turned after the old belt was removed its all messed up and you will have to remove the valve covers to get the cam timing lined back up
if its only the belt that was removed for replacment everything should have been lined up before removing the belt or was one of the heads off for some reason
