99 Rodeo Shifting Hard

I have a 99 2wd rodeo with automatic transmission. I went to the store the other night and everything was fine. Ten minutes later I started to return home and BAM! it sounded like my rear and transmission were gonna rip off the bottom of my truck when it shifted and then when it down shifted it was twice as bad. I also found out it is idling hard because my img is leaking. Oh and it is burning a quart of oil every two weeks. This truck only has 47k on it and seems as if it is falling apart. I take really good care of it too This thing gets pampered.
Back to the shifting problem I tried to clean the range sensor and it still does it that tranny fluid seems okay but I'm not sure if i checked properly. And if it was the fluid would it be so drastic that it would happen over ten minute period when the truck was sitting? Besides I'm pretty sure it's fine.
I am down right disgusted with this car. The other problems are one thing but now the tranny! ARGH!!!! Help!
Thanks, Rick

Take a peek around, there are many, many posts on all these concerns. If your "PRND321" dash indicators line up exactly with the floor shifter all the time, the range sensor is okay. Proper ATF level is critical as well. You need to check it warm (normal op temps), idling in neutral. Running a 4L30E low on ATF will fry it.

Trans fluid is okay. I am unsure what it could be. Like I said transmission going down is a gradual thing. Just over ten minutes bam ! Is it possible it's something with the computer?

When was the last time you flushed the tranny?

Did you get the IMG fixed? That will cause funky shifting as well. Just ask amigo-2K!

No, I didn't get the IMG fixed yet but as I said before this started literally while I was in the store for ten minutes. I am gonna get the IMG fixed and then flush and change the tranny fluid. If that doesn't work then next trip is a good push off a tall cliff. Unreal how you take care of something so well and you still get a lemon.
Thanks for the help.
