OK i finally got a car, a 1992 Honda Accord EX. Its in nice shape only it needs an alignment and it has 161k miles on it. What can i do to it to speed it up a little bit, make it sounds better but without harming the engine(spent all my money on it, cant afford any repairs if it breaks down). Im not gonna be racing, i just want a lil speed without messing with reliability. Also what can i do to make the engine like new? A tune up? Or does a whole rebuild need to be done? How much is all that stuff? Also if i did put on exhaust or intake or anything bolt on like that what would be at risk of messing up in my car? Thanks a lot everyone.

Maybe you should try asking the honda forum...they may be able to help you alot more than us. I'll link you to the accord specific forum. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=187

well, first off, get it aligned, i know some places that have a lifetime aligmnent for like 100 dollars... get that first

second. tune up the engine. 161 needs a tuneup. If you have a code reader, use that too to determine if there are any other internal problems.

you could run an exaust, but you'd be attracting alot of people to race you and since you said you didn't want to do that, i'd recommend against it.

A cai wouldn't hurt your engine, nor would porting the heads.

but to be honest... i'm not the most knowledable on honda's. save your money and drop a faster engine in it instead of doing a rebuild in the future though. 100miles as opposed to a rebuilt 161k miles is always a better option.

yeah i would say swap in a H22a in there. but those engines are expensive.

Well, he says he spent all his money on the car. So I doubt he can afford an H22 swap. How about like...a K&N filter? haha..

i think it had a tune up not too long ago, because i just got it 2weeks and 3 days ago from a local car lot( Honda Dealership, it was a trade in, they had all records of maintenance and the lady b4 me had it serviced regularly)it runs real nice, just pulls softly to the right when i let the wheel go while driving(which is why i figured i needed an alignment). and i posted in here cuz i figured my thread would get more exposure here than in the honda forums.

The affects of an intake and exhaust on your accord wouldn't be harmful at all. They would actually improve performance and allow better air flow. You might actually see a difference in gas mileage as well. Not too great, but first get your alignment done, then see where you can go from there.

And if you ever have the money to do a swap, then like it was said before, the H22 is going to be your best bet for the accord. But it doesn't sound like you have the finances to do so. But you really may want to check out the honda forums. There are plenty of gearheads there that can help you out. Believe it. L8...

yea i think im just gonna get an alignment, tint windows, and maybe paintjob. im not really down for engine swap unless mine dies, because now im in the process of saving up for a motorcycle.

This gets asked a dozen times per week in the honda accord section. You may want to do a search in there, as there is plenty of info to be read. Whether you decide to mod it, do a swap or not, next time please post in the appropriate forum.
