i was going to buy an mkiii supra, but the more i thought about it, the more id rather get an eclipse. sure the supra will be faster, but ive recently learned that an eclipse is a car you get if yu want to mod it yourself, and that there are a ton of mods out there. if i get an eclipse i get to make it faster myself and learn to work on it myself. right now im considering a first gen eclipse, either a GST or GSX. pros and cons either way? i heard from someone it was bad to get teh GSX because the all wheel drive had some problems with it.

on a lighter side...last time I checked, isnt the gsx is the car alot of people would rather have?:screwy: If the AWD really had problems, im pretty sure people wouldnt go after it as much as they do. just my :2cents:

I would suggest getting the gsx. You can't beat the all wheel drive drivetrain. I wish I had it... the pros of having it outweight the cons. There is nothing worse than making some good power, and spinning it away through one tire. (or two)
What you may be reffering to as the problems it has, is the transfer case lock up issue, as well as the easiness of breaking the center differential, these two being common. The dealer takes care of the transfer case (safety recall), and the diff is easily upgradeable. There are remedies for pretty much any problem you may run into, so don't let what problems you hear of deter you from purchasing a gsx. Happy to see that you want to learn and work on your car yourself.

the only down fall the GSX has over the GST is its powertrain loss precentile. a GSX has somwhere between 20-23% drivetrain loss apposed to; well, i can't reamber what the % is on a GST.
The GST does perform better on longer distances then the GSX becasue of this flaw but no one seems to care about running a 1/2 miles or even a mile. on the freeway a GST mod/mod would out run the GSX.
The GSX provides better 0-60 times on the strip. meaning off the line there is "NO" compareison. the GSX flat rips the GST's ass! but never the less they are both exellent DSM'S the only problem is finding one in good shape that is reasionably priced.. Good luck.
EDIT<> The Transmision problem you hear about; the 2g's are far better then the 1g. the 2g tranny, and 4bolt rearend are stronger and more derable. tranny work is not nessessary untell around 300whp. that is were people start breaking 3-4th gear.
