dashboard says check gages problem

Hi everyone
I just bought a old cavalier 1992 auto and i just had a problem to start the car it says check gages n my dashboard it was starting pretty good then i just kinda start when once n a while and today it didnt want to start..
I tried and tried and its completed dead car except the electrical part cuz i can turn on the lights and radio and everything but wont start at all seems like something is not giving the starter?
well i hope someone can help me or what to check and where?

the check guages is where the alternator isn't charging the batt cos the engine isn't running while ignit is on. Are you getting a clicking sound at all? If so then there isn't enough juice going to the starter. If not. open the hood and then lean over the engine bay while someone tries to turn it over for you. If you hear a motor spining but not the engine turning over then the solenoid in the starter is stuck and the starter needs replacing.

werid... i had that come on due to the gas being almost gone. Even my owners manual says the same thing... isnt that a knee slapper.

me too but his motor isn't starting

hmmm.... i missed that. I'm in the same boat. Check the alt and bat.
