yesterday i went to the bank with my friend and we were inside for like 10 or 15 minutes, and when we came out i tryed to start the car and nothing other than a faint click under the hood. he thought it was the starter and i started pulling fusses because i had this problem with my last camaro and it was a vats thing, i fixed it by pulling the big silver well i guess its a relay not a fuss but anyway, i pulled it and left it out for like 3 minutes and put it back in and the car fired right up with no problems. so i was in the process repeat that and my friend not understanding what i was trying to do got under the passanger side and "bang on something" but he's not sure what and niether am i because i didnt see what he was banging on. but sure enough the car fired up and i didnt have any problems after that yeasterday or so far today. So does anyone know if it might be the vats or if i might need a new starter?
Thanks,
Jess

Jess, what year? and what engine? but sometimes starter motor teeth get jammed or it doesn't mesh right and it is recommended you tap the starter with a hammer a couple times to free it. I am sure thats what he tapped that resolved your problem. If it comes back consider replacing the starter. If it doesn't buy your friend a case of beer(if your of age, If not hook him up with a hot chick).

Its a 90 with a 3.1 V-6. he doesnt drink and he's married. But i will buy him lunch. The problem hasnt come back yet(knock on wood) and my dad who has been working on car for the past 40 years in convinced that is not the starter. Thanks for the help guys. untill next time (which hopfully i need help for some time). Jess
