Hello, new to the board, and so far it's great. Nice to have such a wealth of info regarding these trucks!
I need some advice and information. - I'm Not hear to rant at all, just need to solve my problem.
I bought my silverado Z71 new in 2002. Long story short - 6 months after purchase I lost the tranny @23000kms. I don't tow anything heavy just a 16' Lund boat. G.M repaired the tranny under warranty with a new input sun gear and reaction shell.
Well two nights ago I lost the tranny again! this time at 84000kms.
My warranty is up so, G.M. is at this point unsympathetic and I am on my own to fix the truck. It's a daily driver, so the sooner the better.
I was wondering what upgrades I should insist on - to the point of a reliable tranny. Not race preped, unless the cost is reasonable or justifiable.
I do know that there is a reaction sheild upgrade - and I have heard about the valve body upgrade as well. I have read about sensor upgrades, but I am not sure of which ones.
What else should I insist upon?
Thanks in advance
-Andrew
P.S. does anybody have any advice on how to make G.M. more receptive to helping me out with the cost of the rebuild?

The reaction shell you're talking about is the Beast reaction shell. Check out www.teamtripp.com. They list the parts for both of the 4l60e's they build. I bought the Super Duty 4l60, which replaces everything with performance parts, but you might want to check out the other 4l60e. It's a really nice built tranny, but not necessary unless you're wanting to make serious power. Go ahead and look at some shift kits/corvette servos. They will help the tranny shift more firm, thus reducing the wear on the clutches. Also, check into installing an aftermarket tranny cooler. The stock cooler(if you'res has one)is ok, but doesn't do the job as well as a larger aftermarket cooler. I'm really happy with my permacool.

Anyway, just check out their site and check out the parts list on there trannies. You might even want to get one from them. Bernard really knows his trannies, and I'm extremely happy with the one he built for me.
