how do u guys make wider fenders using tamiya's basic putty?

Typically, they are made by either laminating plastic sheet (stock, card, whatever you like to call it) over the existing fender until it is slightly oversized and over shaped, then the plastic is sanded smooth, only using putty to fill gaps and to smooth contours.
Alternatively, they are made by cutting the kit fender out, and adding plastic sheet (stock, card, whatever you like to call it) in the gap, and thusly extending the fender out. Then, it is sanded to shape.
You could make it entirely out of putty if you wanted it to be really, really hard to make them symmetrical, and you wanted them to crack and fall off and shrink and crumble and chip and destroy the underlying plastic and generally make you so frustrated you never want to look at a model ever again.
