Which is faster?

I have a friend with a 93 hb 1.0 5 speed that has 80000 miles and I have a 96 hb 1.3 AT with 160000 miles and neither of us have any performance mods done to them...I have replaced both front axles and both of our cars easily pass emissions checks but my question is who would win in a drag race and what 1/4 mile times could be expected from each combination?

With both vehicles in similar condition, I'd wager that the 1.3 would win. The small auto trans isn't nearly as laggy as some older transmissions for bigger cars, plus an auto CAN give you a better launch if you're not used to power launching a stnadard. The extra power of the 4 cylinder would probably get you down a strip a few tenths faster than a 1.0 standard.

Though on the flip side, you could run the standard out to a higher rpm before shifting, giving you quicker accelleration, though past 5500, the 1.0 doesn't give much more power, just makes more noise.

I would go with the 1.0 Manual.

I'd go with the older 1.0 also. I had a 91' metro convertible 1.0 auto, that beat my buddy's 95' 5 speed metro. The MK4+ metros were a wee bit heavier. I'd expect about a 17.8-18.2 1/4 mile.

The convertables had a lower gearing to compensate for the added weight. I'm not sure if it was just top gear that was modified or if it was the first couple gears too.

What was your top speed in the 1/4? Someone posted here that they did a 42 second 0-60 that seems a bit high even for a 3 cyl metro with a couple bad valves and a dead tranny!

HAHAHAHA Omg someone should hold a Geo race....hahaha and see who has the best running Geo around here....Of Course there would be rules and regulations for which Geo Vs. Geo type situation
