hairline cracked transmission case

Hi,over the past 2 days my 94 sub k1500 has used 3qts of transmission fluid leaking it all over the place.Upon crawling underneath I spotted a hairline crack towards the rear of the casing about 1 inch from where the intermediate part between the transfere case bolts to the tranny.Maybe not so much hairline but stress crack,running verticle from about the middle to top.Any suggestions to get me by untill I get enough dough saved for replacement?

jb weld, works wonders. just dont spread it on any parts you will need to unbolt latter.

clean the area with carb cleaner, till all the oil is off. then use the recomeded cleaner on the back of the package.

update w/ question jb weld didnt hold... noticed that pushing upward on the rear of transfer case will seal the new jb weld crack so I shoved a piece of a 2x4 between the tail shaft of the trasfer case to keep the crack sealed. fits very tight...is this a bad idea???

There is a TSB out on this problem, go to the NHTSA (www.nhtsa.dot.gov) site and look up your vehicle and you'll see the list of both recalls and Technical Service Bulletins. This problem has aloso been known to cause problems with the sift linkage.

My 97 had five pages of TSBs and I only knew about one third of the problems. The tranny case TSB is #020730024, NHTSA #634999. Happy hunting.

GM does not have to fix it but it will let you know how they did fix it and there is always a possibility they might cover the repairs. :lol2:
