I just got my wife a 2002 Jetta GLS 1.8T standard.....any way i was wondering what mods helped the most on this engine? I am a DSM guy so have no clue about this motor. And i hate driving it because it is freaking slow. I plan on replacing the turbo after i max the stocker out K04 from ABD racing.

the most effective uprgade for the money is a new ecu chip. You will get around 215hp and 247tq. chips can cost from about 350 to 700$
the more expensive chips allow you to change programs such as stock and chipped mode check out this site.
www.goapr.com

check out http://www.18turbo.com for more info if you really wanna up your performance. there is everythign you could think of there and the people on the forums are the most helpful you will find anywhere.

a chip is probably the best performace for your money but if you want to spend a lot more money go with a big turbo like a garrett gt28r or rs, for a lot of power with reliability check out apr's stage 2 or stage 3+ kit. www.vwvortex.com is a great site to learn a lot about these cars and engines.
