engine noise

All right guys. I bought my 95 max about a year ago and the engine noice is louder than normal (my buddy has the exact car and his is silent). I can't seem to pin the noise. I thought maybe sticky valve covers or something that some additive could fix but that didn't work. Nothing sounds abnormal, just louder. I wish I could explain more or knew where to start, but that's where you guys come in.
I was reading that there was an issue with the 95 max chain tensioner and guide or something of the sort that would make it louder. I'm hoping this isn't a unique problem you may know what's up.
Thanks for any help

- idle rpm high
- exhaust leak
If u have a screwdriver [if not, buy] place it on different engine parts, then put u ear on the handle. Works like stethoscope: u can locate various inside mechanical sounds like that.
Compare sounds to the other vehicle u mentioned... hit gas; whats the change compared to the other.
