Getting New Car

Ok, here are my circumstances...
I want a nice car [preferably a Camero, Integra or Mustang], but has some meat on stock. Cause once I blow my load on the new car, I can't get any NOS or superchargers for about 6 months to a year!
Now I am really leaning on teh Mustang GT Convertable or Coupe. But I hear bad things about the convertable; things like it doesn't stay together at higher free-way speeds or faster, well that's only 65mph!! I meed something sturdy as well, real sturdy.
Now I know you will all say that the GT is the only way to go, right? Well, I think so for a Stang, since a GT is ONLY 225HP??? Is this a fact? I mean the damn Integra's and Camero SS's have roughly 320 stock! Why is it sooooo low?
Well help me out here...please...please!

Since when do Integra's have 320 hp stock??? According to Motor Trend, the new Integra Type R's only have 195. How much money can you spend and what years are you looking at?

Anyway, I am thinking about the brand new 02 or 03 Mustang GT either COnvertible or Coupe.

I guess I could be biased, but why not get an '02 Z28 ?
It's the last year of production, so it will be worth more.
They're FASTER.
You can get T-Tops and not have to worry about Convertible issues, yet you still have the open air feeling...

I'm going to have to agree with Blackbird on this one. The new Camaro will be worth more and they have more horsepower per dollar. If I were you, I'd save my money for a little while longer and buy a Cobra or SS. The 2003 Cobra (390 hp) will beat an SS (which will have a better resale value). It's all a matter of which one you think looks better, is more reliable, etc. By the way, the Mustang GT has 260 hp. Oh yeah, one last thing, PLEASE don't get the Integra, stick with something with a V8.

If I was you, I would go with a S2000.
The last Camero will not increase in value. It might hold its value fairly well though, but so do Hondas. If I had that kind of cash, my money is a S2000. Go read www.nsxfiles.com he has been racing ferraris, NSX's, and some other cars and nothing but good things to saya about the S2000.

While the S2000 is a good car, I wouldn't get one. I've driven one and it's torque in the lower rpms is pretty bad. It's the kind of car that you have to drive in the higher rpms to use the cars full potential (it's torque curve starts later than that of say a Camaro or Mustang but thats to be expected with only 4 cylinders). On the upside, it gets better gas mileage.:)

I agree with 5.0VIPERMAN that the S2000 is lean on low end torque, but that is not its strong point. High revs, and corners. Its more of a driving machine.
As for you looking at Factory HP ratings, thats a load of crap. Drive the cars, then tell by the seat of your pants.

Ok guys,
Talk me into which you think I should go for. I have cash for either the 02 Z28 or the 02 GT right now. So let me know why you would pick one over the other?
I don't want biased opinons at all. Give me actual info [more than, " the Z28 will be worth more later on] because I plan on keeping the car for a while.
Also, I like cars that sound good, is the Z28 a V8? Does it sound as good as the Mustang?

Your asking for advice on a car that is 30k that you say you have the cash and you don't know a Z28 is a V8?
Ok, kid. Whats your job? Don't mean to sound like a dick, but something is not right with this post.

I think you are right Skyline. Something ain't right here.
Newbie - Go to your library and pick up Car And Driver, Road and Track, Motortrend, Automobile or what ever mag you like. Look for the issue where they compare the GT to the Z28. The mags may be paid by the manufactures, but at least you can get some cold hard numbers for performance.
Go to www.epinions.com and read reviews about each car by owners. You will be surprised at how honest they can be.
Do some research, make an opinion of your own, then see what others think.

I think you should do what Toddb said and go test drive both of the cars. You can't go by the specs in a magazaine. You need to actually drive that car and get the feel for it, then make an educated decision.

Thanks for adding that 5.0. I guess that would be the next logical step and I should have included that in my post. Test driving the cars is also the most fun part of the research experience.

Well, out of an 02 GT or 02 Z28, I'd definitely throw the money at the z28, this coming from a 2000 gt owner. I drove both cars back in 99 when I ordered mine, and the Z was top choice but a 5k a year insurance rate was a little too high for me, so I opted for the Mustang which I thought handled nicer, was more refined, but had dick in terms of performance numbers against the Z28. Able to throw more money in? Buy the Mustang, mine's great now! But it came at an excruciatingly high price where I could've had something bigger, meaner, and faster way earlier. Cough, Cough, Z28.

it depends on how much money you are expecting to pay. if you are thinking of paying the 25-30gs for the mustange or z28, then get the integra. figure you can get a 97teg gsr and still have 15g left over to make it faster than the others.
plus, if you arent going to race it, who care how big you engine is. you said it yourself...speed limit is 65...
but i bought an integra, and now here i am, 150hp later and i can smoke any mustang. all the way to the car dealer to buy another integra...and still have money to buy everyone drinks...
i mean, i cant beat the z28...but who can..heh.
gotta give em daps for the camaro...
go with the teg. not the mustang...my friend drives a mustange...and she is 5'1" 102lbs...its pretty and red...and slow.

If you want speed and cheap, I would go with a slightly older Gt, Cobra, Z28, or SS. I went with the 1996 Cobra instead of a 00 Z28, I haven't regretted it. For 15.5K and only 27K miles, how can you go wrong?
Granted the new cars will have a warranty but the older ones will be cheaper on insurance and you have money to mod it.
F.Y.I. - My Cobra's insurance was $100 cheaper than the 00 Z28. You have to check EVERYTHING about the car. Definitely go to Epinions. I would also go to repair shops and ask which car they see more and for what problems.
I have also heard the interior on the Camaro is not that nice. I didn't get a chance to check the one I was going to buy.
The Z28 will get better gas with a 6speed, but pick whatever makes you happy, feels good. Not what somebody says is better.

I can.
:D
But, seriously, interior's in Camaro=better seats if leather, shittier ergonomics for that passenger...couldn't chevy have found a better place for that cat...guess not...sigh...I don't think my mustang is red and slow...and there certainly isn't no 5'1 110lb girl driving it...

If I where on the market today for a GT car, I think I would go for another Mustang GT. I would add exhaust, gears and a Vortech, the total would come to around 25K and you would have a reliable car that would have ca. 350+ HP and give most anything a good woopin'.
F bodies in my humble opinion have a lot of performance, but build quality and interior space (practicality) have always been lacking. There's something about that plastic fuel line running up the passenger side front wheel well that concerns me...
But at the same time if anyone is on the market now for a GT car, I would wait to at least price and drive next year's Cobra (390 factory HP!) and perhaps wait even longer for the next generation Mustang.
Regarding Imports, I would have a hard look at Subaru's WRX and the new Acura coupe. But if I won the lottery, I'd be after a BMW M3! Better yet, make that an M5!!

If it has to be a GT or Z28, then go with the GT, but if you could save for longer, go with the Mach 1 or Cobra. Because, if you plan on spending 30 g's, you might as well have a little more power. Here is a pic of the Mach 1 if you are wondering what it looks like, they are coming out soon.

30G's?!?!?! i know this is a ford thread, but jesus, if i had 30G's i would definately buy the bottom end 350Z and still have a couple grand to spend on the suspension... holy crap :silly2: , and 320 in an INTEGRA? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah don't buuy an integra, anyting but an integra, for the sake of origionality, don't buy an integra!

Man, look everyone is saying stuff because you sound like you have the cash. Well if I had the cash I would be shopping around on the lots and the internet. If you say you don't know if a Z28 has a V8 then it sounds like you aren't that serious about buying a car, thats all. If you looked seriously then you would know all about them in a few days. For example you said this forum sucks, well yes its not very big. So DUH, go to Google and type in Ford Mustang GT forums or Chevy Z28 forums. You will find much bigger forums like, Mustangworld.com and Stangnet.com

honestly first of all if u didnt know that a z-28 is a v8 then u dont deserve to drive one ur better of getting somehting slow so u dont kill ur self but if it was my 30 g's i would go with the stang but in all fairness even though i dont particularly like honda u should look into the 03 accord coupe v6 manual almost as much power as a stang and almost as quick and yep now ima get bashed but ohh well life will continue
