When looking for replacement original alternator they ask the for the month and year. It is stated as 11/97 thru 3/98 or 4/98+. What is the difference?

I honestly don't know, but it's well spelled out in this forum that second gen Rodeos are very picky about their alts, or weird things happen...transmission problems, lights going on in the dash etc.

You should find the manufacture date on a plate fastened to the inside of the drivers door frame. Also, the VIN has a code in it for build date.

My Rodeo was purchased new in 1/98, but had a recall later in the year for I believe to replace the alternator for some reason. I was just wondering what the difference is. I can get the numbers off the alternator that is in there now.

I'm thinking you might have meant 1st generation Rodeo's. FWIW, a LOT of 95.5 - 97 Rodeo years are REAL picky about their alternators. Haven't heard too many complaints about the 98+'s years yet.

Don't get me started on aftermarket Alternators, all I can say is BOSCH is a go forgo all others.

Any 3.2/3.5 equiped isuzu (1993+) has the alternator 'sensativity'. I'm not surprized if they need an exact build date for parts lookup since isuzu always made little tweeks & changes here & there every 6 to 12 months. Just like the (domestic) big three right?? NOT!!!!!
