Wiring up surrounds

I just realized how much hassle it's going to be to wire up the surrounds in my car from the amp in the back. Every shop I talk to says they will just wire from the trunk to the console and then splice into the stock wiring into the doors. That seems to kind of defeat the point of the larger wiring I bought. Has anyone tried to get 15 guage wire into their door speakers? How hard was it? Any hints? Thanks!

i did the same thing the shop did, i just ran the wires to the deck leads and spliced, much easier that way. but if you want it to your doors, you'll need to locate the wire loom leading to the door and open it up, remove the old speaker, making sure you remove the right one, not like the power window or lock wires or anything else, then re-run the new thicker guage through to your new comps. HTH.

That's exactly what I was gonna do but it just looks like such a b*tch! I mean the new wire probably isn't gonna fit too nice in with all the old wires (since it is about as wide as the whole wire bundle now) and I figure you have to tie it to the end of the old speaker wire and pull it through, so I figure tie a string to the old wire, pull that through (pretty easy) and tie the string off in a loop so you can't lose a loose end in the door somewhere (that would be absolute hell) and try like hell to get the new wire through. Just wondering if there is an easier way and will it really make a difference? It looks like it should to me but maybe that tiny wire can carry the entire ~150 watts of power to each speaker?

the bigger wire won't make that much of a difference, IMO you're just wasting your time and energy.

yea the thicker guage wire isnt really gonna do any good for you anyway, its not worth it for the time involved in the procedure.

Ok, well then screw the idea of wiring the doors (the rears are still gonna get big wire cuz they are right next to the amp) should I even wire big wire to the console? Should I just buy some small wire and wire that, it would pobably be less of a lump under the carpet.

I am installing 15 awg is that a fair size? BTW whats the stock wiring? I know it looks tiny.

15 gauge should be more than efficient, i believe stock wire guage is either 20-24guage.

It's weird, I was looking into it some more and on the drivers side door there is a cable wrap (the black round kind with a split in it) and in that is some fairly reasonable looking wire (clear insulation, looks bout 1/8th inch) , but when you get in the door and look at where it goes to the speakers the wire is a white insulation and only about half as big looking. What's more the passenger side does not have this wire and wrap going to it (there is a plug to pull out and do it if I want to thoguh). Is this standard? Does this mean the HU goes to the drivers door through that and then back through the dash to the passenger? :confused: It's all so complicated.

both sides should have there own seperate lines for the speakers, there should be a line to both.
