Hi on my 2002 For Tauras the engine light came on yesterday now today it won't start and the low fuel light comes on but I have a 1/2 tank of gas. does anyone know where the fuel filter maybe located and if this may be the problem?

Random part replacements can be expensive and waste good parts. Think routine fuel filter replacement goes every 30K miles. Fuel filter is on the gas line in front of the gas tank. Look under the body near the area in front of the right rear wheel. Is a chubby and fairly expensive unit. I bought a Purolator @ Pep Boys for $20 but have found them cheaper by shopping around. The clips to hold the lines on are tricky, if you break one look at the "Help" display, can find a blister pack containing two much cheaper than dealer price.

I agree with Willyum that random part replacement can get expensive, but we're talking about a fuel filter, not a radiator. It doesn't necessarily sound like this replacement is going to fix your car, though. But you will never hurt anything by replacing your fuel/air/oil filters, spark plugs, fluids, or whatever other maintenance items before the recommended change intervals. And if you can't remember the last time you changed your filter, it's time.

Yes, Ford recommends that you replace the fuel filter every 30k miles. Advance Auto Parts sells the Purolator filter (F65455) for $6.96, so I don't know where Willyum got his, unless he has the flex fuel engine. If you are running the flex fuel engine, that filter will cost you around $25 (but on many vehicles with flex fuel engines--I don't know about Taurus--the recommend fuel filter change interval is often much longer than with the non-flex fuel versions).
