Auto leveling system

I have a 2000 Yukon XL and recently the auto leveling system has not been operating. Is this a common occurrence on these cars?

It seems like the compressor is not working (interesting sounds at first, now it doesn't make any sounds). The dealer wants ~$650 for parts and labor to replace the compressor - how hard is this to do yourself? I have a decent amount of experience working on cars, I just want to know what I'm getting myself into.

not familiar with this truck but if you go to you local auto parts store you can pick up a haynes or chilton manual that is breed specific around 15 dollars and should cover anything you will need to know. good luck

Well, I just went to look at the Haynes manual at a parts store and didn't find any mention of the compressor. Are there any better resources (online or offline) that detail the process of replacing the compressor?

would be listed under suspetion components if its in there if not look at shocks, thats where it most likely jacks the suspension system up. if it is you will see a small hose attached to the shock or and air bag, thats where you need to start.
if in don't see anything there start the truck with a helper sitting behind the wheel, watch where the ass end moves up and down you will see and hear movement, look around you will find something that moves if your system is moving that much it shouldnt take long to find the air hoses. evedently a lot of people are haveing trouble with this system so sooner or later someone familliar with the system will give you an answere but i'm willing to bet its the shocks that jack the system up, thats the way they used to work

I'm fairly sure that the shocks work in conjunction with a set of airbags... but then again, I could be wrong.

the Haynes manuals are more general in nature.
You need the GMC Service Manual CK8 Truck, it is $120.

Please be sure that the compressor is at fault, there are 30 pages of diagnostics procedures in the GMC service manual.
As usual, most of it is: Use the scan tool, send a command here, check the result there.

You do have a Suspension Control Module under the Auxiliary Blower Motor.
There is a Compressor Leveling Module (a box with the compressor in it) on the Rear Crossmember Frame.
Do you have any DTC's?

I don't believe that there are any DTCs, but I have not had them read. The dealer said that it was the compressor, but who knows.

Good, so you have the diagnosis. Look for the compressor box by the rear wheels and good luck. Should be easy.
