My girlfriend and I had to go to court as witnesses last night from an incident on Dec 30. We were out returning Christmas gifts when we left a local Mall.
I was driving her '04 Corolla and we were exiting the mall behind a Jeep Cherokee.
He made a right. I made the right and signalled immediately to get into a left turning lane at a light. He pulled over in front of me without signalling.
The light was green with no cars coming and he came to a definitive stop at the white line. There was no reason to be stopping. He sat there. I tooted.
He moved forward and slammed his brakes again?! ... he proceeded to do this 4-6 more times until he was in the middle of the intersection, still no turn signal, still no idea what he was doing.
So I just made my left. :)
At this point we had traveled less than 60' from the Mall.
He then makes the left and follows me to the next light.
I make a left, he makes a left. I make a right into the next shopping center. He follows. I loop around the lot to the Staples (our next destination).
I park in a spot and he almost rear-ends me. I suspect he thought I was going to drive through the space since he it was clear he was following me.
He quick backs up and pulls right up next to my girlfriend's door (she could not open her door).
He indicates for us to roll the window down. She opens it a bit.
Exhange:
Him, "I'm gonna ____ you up."
Me, "What's you problem?"
H, "Why were you tail gating me?
M, I wasn't
H, You were. What's your problem?
M, Even if I was tailgating you, it was for 50 feet ... why follow me here for?
H, What are you doing here?
We were coming to Staples. (duh?!)
So what's your problem?
**I stop talking and just maintain eye contact for what seems to be quite a while
h, I have all night to mess with you.
Why would you want to?
This will make a great story to tell my friends.
At this point I asked for Cindy's cell and dialed 911 ... his friend suggest he leaves and after some discussion they start to pull out. 911 connects me to the local police and I give them the plate.
They cited him and he requested a court date which was last night.
I can not begin to explain what a lame defense he offered. He showed in court with a Iron Maiden t-shirt on and a TransAm black jacket.
I would have given anything for a transcript of the dialogue between the Judge and this guy. Priceless. He ended up looking like such a fool. He indicated to the judge that he felt I tailgated him for 10 - 20 feet ... the judge was like "and you think this was worth following him over?"
That is only one moment, the whole case was entertaining.
The judge found him guilty of disorderly conduct. Fine $175.
... sorry so long, just had to share.

His father drove him to court.
At one point, during his testimony, the father asked if he could speak ... the judge looked right at him, said "No." and looked back at the kid and said, continue.
:D ... that was funny. Put daddy in his place.

Thanks redneck :) ... although I gave up street racing 2+ years ago and for GOOD 1-1/2 years ago, I still feel a part of the community and I know my roots are here. I am honestly 100% satisfied to not be street racing any more.
I've been toying around with the idea of sharing/posting why I do not do it any more ... but:
1. It would be a long post and I would not offer cliff notes.
2. It would have to be told as a fictional story.
3. I'm not sure if the amount of emotion I have about what occured, and how it changed me, could possibly come over the Internet via simply typed letters.
Ghost96Gt, I think the "wiser and smarter" has just come from experience. I suspect I have been to court, talked to police and wrecked more cars than anybody on here. Living through what I have been through, you tend to learn a few things :D

100% agreed ... but you can do that at the strip or track.
Granted, there is a charm to picking on random, impromtu idiots :)
Solo1 Hill Climbing is the single biggest rush I have ever had while pushing a car to its limits. Nothing (for me anyway) compares to pushing your car 100% and using the entire road (public) legally.
Imagine the roads you drive on everyday ... imagine they closed them down once (or twice) a year and allow you to go for it as fast as you possibly can. The street is "prepped" and closed.

In that case, if you are indeed an English Major, bring a tissue-box, and a transfusion kit whenever you log in here. Grammar, and spelling for that matter, is not a major concern here.

Two of the hill climb races are in that area as well, but they are hard to spectate since you only get to see 2 or 3 turns depending on where you are standing. They are FREE to spectate though :)

dampachi, I typically race in the import events ... so we would not be able to face each other there.
If you wanted to race, it would have to be an open track day or something.
Do you know what kind of times you are running?
... Hyde is getting a load of winter work done and I am hoping to be sniffing 10s this year.

Um...it's been done 45394 times. A totally stock 99+ GT mustang+9 psi KB=low 12s/high 11s. Same with an ati procharger. I'd be making around 400rwhp and 430rwtq.

That can't be the only thing done to it... Exhaust? ECU fiddling? You'd need some sticky tires thats for sure...
99 Mustang GT only makes 260hp... Vortech Supercharger claims 464hp, 406tq at 7.5-8.5psi... Not bad for $4607.95...
Great thing about Superchargers is there is an abundance of torque off Idle... terrible thing about Superchargers is the abundance of torque off idle.
Suspension and tires are a must.
I can see you doing low 12s, but you'd need to be master shifter and have a perfect launch. Consistant 11s I think you'd need a bit more than just a S/C... just my opinion though.

See RedNeck's post.
You'll be nearly doubling your factory rear wheel hp/tq, and I just don't see a stock tranny and rear end handling that, for too long of a time.
I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying you better be prepared to spend a little more money on the car then just the s/c'er kit. When you start making serious HP/TQ, things will break (I can't count the built trannies that car in my sig has went through on one hand).

For 11s, yes. I'd need sticky tires/exhaust/31 spline axles/differential. But for 12s, no. I've seen totally stock 99+ GTs other than the supercharger run mid 12s on street tires. And yes, definitely a good tune is involved. No intercooler. I plan on running this blown/totally stock setup on the street until I can get the rearend built. The TR-3650 can handle some power..but it's eventually going to give out. I haven't really got anything in mind for the tranny as of right now since it'll last longer than the rear. And the rear will last awhile since as long as I'm running street tires I wont have to worry about hooking up enough to snap them stock axles. If I didn't answer a question/concern that was asked..remind me and I'll clear it up. I'm just answering what I remember.
BTW: The vortech supercharger is centrifrugal..so it doesn't have as much torque off the line as say the twin screw KB. Which is why I am currently leaning toward a vortech/ATI centrifrugal blower. Traction with the KBs is a bitch. Andd suspension isn't really that big of a deal on these cars. Old cut foxbody 4 cylinder springs in the front and rear and shocks/struts if you're going all out and you're good. With around 270rwhp/drag radials/stock suspension, etc. A 99+ GT mustang CAN run in the high 12s. With that extra 130rwhp I can make up for street tires, suspension, etc.

Well, mid-12s is a little different then low 12s/high 11s. You still will have stock internals though, and it sure wouldn't hurt to go forged steel on those parts.
But for what you described as what you want (street only-correct?), you may want to give nitrous a little thought.
Just a suggestion.

Low 12s with just the blower isn't unreasonable..I've seen 12.3s with just a KB 9psi nonintercooled. And ATIs website boasts quote..."ATI is the only company that has put stock 4.6's and 5.0's into the 11's." And no, it will be street/strip. Andd, theres no way in hell I'm adding nitrous to a blown car with stock internals.
Edit: Sorry, I realize now you meant nitrous INSTEAD of a blower.

I would say give an intercooler a though. An intercooler is going to be sooooo much safer at 9psi on stock internals. Intake temps are going to be nearing 179F assuming 70% compressor efficiency and that the ambient temperature is 70F. With a 70% efficiency intercooler, intake temps will be down to 102F. Even with a 1psi pressure drop, you will make 8% more power using the intercooler as opposed to not using it. More power+safer=why not?

Price. It's an additional $1200. I know a guy with a blown 94 running around on stock internals. It's been blown for atleast 60,000 miles..and it has 100,000+ on the clock now.
Oh yeah...sorry for hijacking your thread, Jeff. :)

Yes they can get expensive. I personally wouldn't pay $1200 for one. I would just buy an intercooler and pipes separately with some couplers. I'm sure it can be done for well under $1200.
I also apologize for hijacking.

Lol. Yeah, just N02, not N02 and FI.
Well, I thought I read that you just wanted street use only (or in other words, you wanted a little extra get up to beat the local competition-which nitrous would be perfect for), so that's my bad. Either way, good luck with your car.
I still suggest forged internals, but I would suggest beefed up trans/rear end even before that. Its really easy to pop the stock equipment at the track, and when you have to depend on that vehicle to get you back home, then you can't be too cautious.
Good luck though man. As soon as you get it on the track, and make your first real good pass, before long you'll be wanting to strip all the excess weight and spend every free penny you got on making it go faster!

Wouldn't just be easy enough to ask if I have raced a 99 Supercharged Mustang running 9 psi already?
The answer is yes. :)
I have the timeslip if you would like to see it.
If I recall correctly (this was 2 summers ago when I was slower). I ran a 12.5 to his 12.6 and I had him at the tree. It was a healthy race and a nice fellow.
I ran into him on the street a few months later and he was down to 12.4, but I was at 12.2 by then.
I think 12.4 ~ 12.6 is a reasonable goal for a supercharged Mustang. Taking the car on a diet would help a alot :)
