Question for those who have the AEM intake.

ok, my intake was installed a week ago and I love it. I installed it with a friend. I've noticed that it sounds a lot louder when im at about 4500rpm and if i gas it at 4500 it makes this loud but rich noise that sounds like I have an after market exhaust. Dont get me wrong I love the sound^^. Just wondering if this is normal and that we installed it correctly.

You know what, it sounds so damn nice that I couldn't stay off VTEC :D

thanks

it's normal. it's just sucking in more air for VTEC. When VTEC kicks in it obviously needs more air so it just makes it louder. it's not a big deal.;)

Yea, it's like im addict to crack but VTEC instead..lol:p

I cant wait 'til getting header and exhaust:D

What would be better on a 2000GSR, 4-2-1 header or 4-1 header? Im going NA, no turbo.

its normal. removing the resonator and the old box gets rid of that "muffler for the intake" sounds great. if your gonna get headers i suggest the 4-1, took take full advantage of our high reving b18cs
and the dc 4-1's claim no loss in bottom end torque with larger hp gains begining at 4000 rpm to redline. perfect for the gs-r's power band

ps make sure you got the headers for a 2000 gsr
our setup is different than the 94-99 tegs. be especially careful when getting an exhaust. only a few companies make exhaust for 2000, and if they don't you can use the 94-99 LS exhaust but keep in mind it will be louder on your geeser. I've heard you could also use the 98 and up type r piping as well for exhausts. happy tuning

Get the 4-1 for sure. It have some (very small) loss in low ends but once in first stage vtec, it really preforms. Of course like all hondas, the car's power really shines when you stay in high rpms, especially when you are racing :)

Thanks for the info people:cool:
Im probably gonna go with the DC sports 4-1 but could someone explain what's the main difference between the 4-2-1 and 4-1, just curious. thanks

4-2-1's merge much more quickly then the 4-1's. the pipes merge in the upper half of the header then again in the bottom half in 4-2-1 set up hence 4 pipes to 2pipes then to one pipe. 4-1 merge at the same time near the bottom of the header hence 4 pipes to 1 pipe. 4-2-1 create power throughout the power band. 4-1's don't really make power until after 4000 rpm where it makes much more hp than a 4-2-1 would. if you look at dc's website they have dyno charts the put the 4-1 againt the 4-2-1 and you'll see what I mean. thats the summery of it without having to go into flow velocities and the scaveging affec of each header.

skooby..... if you're looking to get a dc sports 4-1 ceramic header I have one if you're interested. I had it on my teg and has around 3,000 miles on it... it's in prefect condition, I decided to go forced induction so I have no use for it anymore... drop me an email if you're interested.
