down shift

I just got into the bmw world "my First " any body have any tips on a trany I have 1999 with 123500 miles and runs smooth except with the same problem of down shifting.
Taking it to get the fluid changed right now, is it a good idea since it has never been changed befor ever!

Hi ! I assume you got 323i or ci if yes it is good idea to change the fluid,one thing ! make sure to put right fluid . Usualy on 323 series 1999 and 2000 ,GM 5 transmission are instaled,so you need Texamatic fluid made by TEXACO avilable only from BMW dealer, do not put anything else or you about screwing your tranny. Do not let anybody do it unless they know how ( special procedure is required ), another thing do not belive anybody if they say you can use Red Line fluid or other-NO !!! ,there is no substitute for Texamatic which can not be mixed with anything else. When you change your ATF let me know how much you paid and if yor downshifting improved .Good luck !

You need 8 litres of fluid ( 16 $ per litre) and ATF filter kit ( around 70 $ US ) plus labour 1.5 h .
