darn....cheap rotors....

Darn, these cheap GM rotors... keep warping up on me....I need to get a set of some rotors that do not warp....and was interested in getting the slotted and cross drilled rotors, however I heard someone say that the cross drilled crack often and do not last that long....Is it wiser to get then just the slotted rotors... and from which company? Is the zinc plating actually work, and does it prevent rust....therefore no need to machine these guys....? Can you machine these types of rotors? And how long can they last if I only do normal driving? Tanks guys alot...

Zinc is just a corrosion inhibitor. I don't see how rust can even get started on a rotor surface, the constant friction of braking does a great job of cleaning the rotor surface.Even more so when those rivets start to carve a groove on the rotor face...J/K

where you gettin the rotors from??? do you ride your brakes alot???

If your warping rotors then it means your overrheating them...find the problem before you decide its cheap rotors...jj

I only had them them machined for the first time since I bought the truck, about 6 months ago. I machined them, and put it back on my truck....wobble, wobble...machined again....darn, wobble, wobble... So I need new onces....Someone told me to get them from www.raceshopper.com....he said they make some good stuff... Can you huys answer my questions....

1. How long do cross-drilled and slotted rotors last with normal driving?

2. Can you machine them?

3. I heard that the drilled rotors crack often, so is it maybe better to get only slotted rotors?

4. Is there any other company I should look at, maybe powerslot or so?

I wash her, wax her, make her sparkle... then... well...I only use it for baby-ing her... and to go to the super market every so often.... I don't go to the strip or pull anything heavy...just normal driving...

Hi,I like wagner brake parts especially the thermoquiet brake pads.But thats beside the point.I dont think you need fancy high dollar rotors for your truck.I would bet that whoever machined your rotors didnt machine them perfectly and the amount of runout that your left with leads to premature warpedness.I am not familiar w/ the brands you have mentioned above and dont think you need hi performance stuff on a normal driven truck.Also check for sticking caliper slide pins or something that maybe causing your brakes to overheat and your rear rotors may be warped as well.If you ever must have your rotors turned again the on car lathe is the way to go as long as the tech knows what hes doing.I have been doing brakes professionally for over a decade and have seen that on car works better than bench.But the on car is only as good as the tech who sets it up.My experience w/ wagner brand parts has been phenominal compared to the other stuff they sell around here.good luck

What.................? No, I do not live in the mountains. I took the warped rotors back to the store that machined them and told them they had to give me new ones, because they screwed mine up... that linda failed... they told me to get out of their stores...Guys, it was a few simple questions...not something that difficult.....Thanks for all of your help you guys....but see if you could answer the questions, just roughly.... and they do sell wahner products in my local walmart... but I really don't want to put these on...I want something more cooler, better stoppping power especially on the highway when those dawm hondas, always keep com'in in front of you.....I don't know about you guys, but here in Toronto....for the past couple days whenever I go to work in the morning and at night...some good dawm, f*ck'in migets, in their hondas keep cutting me off....I am driving in the third lane at about 120 kilometers, when all of a sudden the f*ck'in honda comes in front of me, driving 80 kilometres...I have nearly missed hitting them...only by inches...my brakes suck, well the oem stuff...and I want something that when I push the brake pedal it gives a nice firm direct strong stopping power...that is why I want slotted and drilled rotors....or just slotted rotors, I think might be better....?

I have found that the cheaper (softer) pads are more rotor friendly.

I'm sorry. I was mystaken. I thought you actually wanted to find out why you are burning up rotors. Silly me. Go ahead and spend your big bucks on the cross drilled rotors, then after you have warped them come on back and ask your question again. On secound thought perhaps sombody should just ask you to leave the af forum. That last post was full of improper language,which i bet is why the shop that cut your rotors told you to leave. Silveradoking , do you have the stock size tires or your truck or are they larger ? As for the slotted and drilled rotors , they will offer better braking than stock or rotors that are not drilled or slotted. The slots and holes allow the gasses that occur under braking to escape which allows you to stop quicker. the slots and holes are also there for better cooling as well. Hope this helps.

I apoligize for my mouth, if it offended anyone...but I did not direct it to anyone...I just said I was pissed of at the guys that messed up my rotors...Wouldn't you be pissed of if someone messed something up for you and you had to go spend a couple hundred bucks for someone esle's mistake...? So what was the questions you asked? I forgot... Oh yea your rotors! Maybe you should have looked at JJ first post a little better. I don't care if you bought brand new rotors 6 times in 1 year, if your slide pins are sticking your gonna heat those rotors up and create lateral runout in no time at all. Not an opinion, I have pletty of experience with this problem, no one ever changes slide bushings and seals when doing a pad change. And the book says always get new ones, even the slide bolts themselves.
