so the link above will take you to an article about arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's "celebration of marriage" that took place on valentines day. its a rather anti "covenent marriage" article (if you dont know what that is, do a quick search via google) and it mentions in the last paragraph a group of protesters that disrupted the "celebration".
that was me and a group of friends. We're a part of an organization called the "conway league of queer activists" (conway being a city in central arkansas).
the author got something wrong though. our banners read "queer EQUALITY now" one word on each banner, tiered one on top of the other.
i dont really want this to turn into a gay marriage argument. i'll freely argue the the topic with anyone that wants to. just do it over PM. The only reason i started this thread was to inform anyone that wants to know that we havent given up, not even in the face of total and complete failure.
that, and shameless self promotion and spotlight hogging.

During Huckabee's speech, a group of young activists unfurled banners saying "Queer Rights Now."
Isn't that a little bit contradicting? You all are for gay rights but you use words that people use to make fun of them?

considering that gay people painted the banners and were also present at the protest, id say no...
we chose to use the word "queer" instead of gay for many reasons:
one, it gets peoples attention.
two, its not just gay rights we're fighting for, but also bisexuals, transexuals, transgendered etc. "queer" encompasses all of those.
three, its simply not offensive. people only think it is. but gays and other "queers" have adopted it, and taken much of the "force" out of it. much like blacks adopting the word "nigger" and thus lessening its power to offend.

You know what I dont care anymore. Do what you want to do as long as I'm not being singled out and discriminated against for celebrating christmas.
