yeah so i was driving down a 2 lane highway to the movie theather with a couple friends of mine, me and my friend in my 91 sl and 4 of my other friends in a 97 maxima. we lined up and he had me the whole way..i shifted perfect every gear had a near perfect launch but he the whole time the front end of my car couldnt get past his front wheels..we hit about 75 then we shut down but i was pissed my car couldnt keep up..im the one supposed to have the sports car!!!! is it my car isnt running at full potential? cuz i really thought i would be able to take him considering he had more people in the car, and hes got like, 30 less hp..im so confused help me!!!!!

Well...ur engine could be lacking Hp...u shouldn't lose to a 97 max w/ 4 ppl in it...

dont 97 maximas run mid 14's

hell on, even the new maxima with freakin 250 hp dosent run 14s. My cousin got a 98 maxima and he shit is moded and its pretty fast but even with all those mods there is no way in hell he will run 14s. So it they guy was stock maxima then he will probably run 15s. (If he gets lucky).

Just looked it up, 97's run mid low 15's. 2002's run around a 14.6.

Wtf is up with all these 250 hp 4 door sedans? I don't understand why there isn'ta market for supercars anymore.

i beat my friends jeep cherokee by 1 car going from 0 to ~85.he beat my the first time too but i won 2 outta 3.i have a atx though.

i got a real easy solution to your probelm. The SOLUTION is called VR4.

yea 02 maxima is a mid to high 14 second car
maxima's are no slouches at all

the supra is re-emerging in 2006 with either a 5.0 v8 engine or a inline 10 cylinder engine, producing 500 HP and price tag 110-125,000.

skyline is coming out in 2007 with a 3.2 or 3.5 v6 twin turbo engine with 450 HP. (price unk at this time)

and then there is me, going from a VR4 to a NA......maybe.

yah my buddy has an 02 MAX with intake , headers, catback.... and he ran a 14.5 @96mph ... i can get him out the hole alot of times b/c he cant catch traction!!

sorry i know this is an old thread but no1 really answered my question of what could be wrong in this situation. a few people said i should have won but no1 said a possible reason or what i could do to change that. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Well to answer why your engine is lacking we would need specifics on the way it runs. If you have no check engine light or noticeable problems then we can't really help you over the net. I can say if you have high mileage then your engine could just be tired from normal wear and tear (compression loss, etc.)...high mileage i'd say would be over 125k.

nah my car only has 93k on it but yeah my check engine light has been on. when i bought it the mechanic said it was some kind of flap thats somewhere in the intake that is broken but he said it would not affect the car in anyway could this be the problem? i cant think of nething else please help thanks
