from a search I did it seems fairly easy to replace the filter.
Drop the pan, undo 3 bolts and replace it. How hot does the fluid need to be to change? Or how long should I drive it first if it is stone cold ~65 degrees.

On a ~65degF day, I'd just leave the truck cold, drop the pan, swap out the filter, button it up & add new ~65degF ATF, the same amount that came out. If you are just doing drain & fill cycles thru the pan, then I'd warm the truck to normal operating temps first.

Joel,
Haynes is stating to warm up the tranny to a certain temp so it will drain/dissolve the crud more than stone cold.

That's very true, but it's kind of a catch 22. If you run the truck, you will have ATF pumped all over in the tranny, sticking to the valve bodies, channels, etc... as opposed to letting it sit overnight, where much more of the ATF has settled into the pan. If you were talking really cold temps, I would definately warm it. But 60deg+ I'd leave it. Plus if you run it, you run the risk of burning yourself on hot exhaust, hot ATF, etc.. Do whatever works for ya. Either method will work fine!
