Gas Gauge Not Working Even After Fuel Pump Replacement

I have a 97 Blazer 4wd with 97,000 miles on it. I recently replaced the fuel pump because it has had the problems most 97 owners seem to have about this time. The fuel guage had died a long time before, but I understood the guage problem would be fixed when the whole fuel pump was replaced. Currently the guage only moves from empty to 1/4 tank. Could it now be an instrument panel problem? Please help since I have waited so long to have a working gas gauge.

there are two things, a sending unit and the fuel pump.
The fuel pump inserts into the sending unit in the tank and the sending unit is what measures the fuel level.
Replace your sending unit.

Ummm.... The sensing unit is supposed to be in the gas , that is how it senses the fuel level.

You are referring to an old style brass float simular to the float in a carborator. Current vehicles use a solid plastic float, can't sink.

My gas gauge hasn't worked forEVER! (or at least 1-2 years) I have to reset the odometer everytime I fill up and know I need gas between 200-250 miles. How hard is it for a normal Joe to fix this or should I leave it up to a Pro/Rip Off Artist?

Like to have someone do it for me so I have a warraty in case something goes wrong or the install is defective.
Go to several shops and get 5 or more quotes.
All that is needed is the sending unit seeing your pump is operating properly.

Others on the site have done it, but without a lift, it's awkward. Myself, I wouldn't do it on the ground.

As everyone has said, replace the sending unit. If you've already done the pump yourself (did you?) You understand how to drop the tank. I would also reccomend replacing the fuel pulsator unit (40 bux) at that miledge... I learned from a bad experience recently...
