I finally got my cutlass (95) running pretty decent after the broken spark plug fiasco.

However, it ran out of gas and i must have burnt out the fuel pump, trying to start it. After changing the wires and coil pack (much needed), i'm getting plenty of spark.

I pulled a couple of plugs and didn't smell fuel and they weren't wet from me trying to start it up.

Then it dawned on me that when i turned the key, i didn't here that wisssing sound from the fuel pump. I got underneath and pulled the line off of the filter and there was no fuel coming through the filter.

How do you pull the tank to get to the pump. Is it inside the tank? Do I have to drain all the fuel to put it in. Hope not i just put 5 gallons in after it ran out.

Please help
Ray

I have a 91 Ciera, that I changed the fuel pump in. There are two metal straps that hold the tank to the body of the car. You have to take those off first. Then disconnect the lines to the pump and the fill pipe and pull the tank down. The pump is in the tank, but before you remove the pump it's a good idea to take a vacuum and suck out all the dirt and sand that is surrounding the gasket. That way you wont get dirt in your tank. I did mine with about 4 or 5 gallons of fuel in the tank, it made it more difficult but its still possible.
