If I put 5.25" components in the front would it be better to put in the rear a pair of 6.5 mid-basses? or a pair of 6.5 comps? or a pair of coaxs? or a sub? The car is a CRX and all around sound quality is what I'm after.

Well, if you have a good set of components up front powered by a good clean amplifier...rear fill is not needed. I don't use it, MANY people do not use it. It'd be better to spend MORE money on one set of 6.5's up front powered by an amp, than everything (6.5 comps, amps, midbass, etc, etc). IF you INSIST on rear fill, get come components up front and power them by a good 2channel amp, and then get some coaxials for the rear powered off you HU. I suggest CDT CL-6x or Cl-5x (depending on size needs) for rear fill if you insist. BUT, i haven't used rear fill for 2.5 years :) peace

cool...if i do go with rear fill then should I go with a 4 channel amp and if so, what size. Looks like most 6.5" have 20-40more rms watts than 5.25".

Well, in all honesty...

What's your budget?
check out www.caraudio.com (i'm ngsm13 there too)
Look for the RE Audio Group buy thread, some RE components! Check out a good 2 channel amp 2 x 150rms amp.

For the rear fill, what HU do you have? Hard wire the HU to the battery, and run the rear coaxials off the HU.

Thanks for the replies...what about this setup:
JL Audio TR650-CSI RMS 50watts (Rec. Amp Power: 10 - 75 Watts)

Phoenix Gold R2.5:2 Octane R Series 2 80W x 2(4 ohm stereo)RMS 100-150
or this amp
Hifonics Warrior Hawk 2-channel 90W x 2 Amp RMS 2x50

Pioneer DEH-1700 22 watts RMS/45 peak x 4 channels rear pre amp output

I'm trying to stay around $300, hence the cheap Pioneer

Well, I'd get some component speakers up front. Check out the RE series components, and then look at a Profile CL400 to power them (100x2 rms). Both can be had for under $200 shipped. The HU is a good one for the price, alpine also offers some good choices! That being said, the comps, amp, and HU will be all you need. Then if you feel the need for rear fill ever, check out the CDT cl-6x...they're $45 shipped or less, and you can power them off you HU. (Talk to a this guy on aim, his sn: djdilliodon , he is an authorized CDT dealer, sells all stuff brand new with warranty, tell him Noah snet you!)

Will I be ok with the Hifonics amp or do recommend a different one. I'm kinda strapped to the $80-$120 range on amps.

Just to make sure, I want to match the rms of the speakers (50watts in this case) to the amp (so around 50watts) correct?

Well, components will give you MUCH better sound...and you won't be wanting to upgrade in the future...you WILL notice a WORLD of difference b/w components and coaxials...period!

So, for $200 TOPS...shipped! The ABSOLUTE best you can get for the money:
www.caraudio.com , the RE Audio Group Buy. (for direct link to RE audio it's www.reaudio.com Call them and tell them you are part of the group buy!)

Then as far as an amp: Profile CL400, $80 shipped TOPS!!
Check out ebay, new from an ebay store OR
www.thezeb.com OR
www.ikesound.com

Go with that, it'll blow ANY of the other options you've listed away...hands down, I have heard the difference b/w JL coaxials and RE components!

Here's what I bought:Pioneer DEH-P2600 50w x 4 $99, Phoenix Gold Octane-R6.5 70w RMS $70, Phoenix Gold OctaneR-2.5:2 80w x 2 (4 ohm stereo) $99, and $40 for Monster cables. $308 for everything, found a local shop who price matches so if anything goes wrong I don't have to ship it anywhere... piece of mind I guess. Now I just have to slap in a new distributor, make the speaker enclosures, and wire it up. Cheap, brand name... hope it sounds decent.

I have an 88 CRX .... I have the mid/tweets in the kick panels, on some songs the music seems to come from behind you (even though there are just 2 subs back there).
