Launching is the initial take of point during a race. People often ask at what RPM is the best time to release the clutch from stand still to get the most powerfull launch. Launching in a FWD car is more tricky then an AWD one since you are trying to avoid wheel spin & hop.

i dissagree, ive had a gst and now a gsx and i think its much harder to launch the awd. it takes awhile to get it down right. either way, the key to a race is learning to launch, AND shift properly. practice, practice practice. just my $0.02

I guess it's different from driver to driver, I find it easier to launch my friends awd dsm then my fwd.

Its not hard to get a AWD to launch better than a FWD. My wife could probably pull a 1.9 in my 2g. The trick is to get a launch that is good for an AWD in an AWD ;) Most poeple never get down to the 1.5s or even 1.6s. Most poeple end up in the 1.7-1.8 range. So n that sense, it is tough to launch a AWD properly. FWDs have lower expectations it seems, so most poeple chalk up poor launching to having a wrong wheel drive car and dont work much on it, and usually end up just going for MPH. I luanched a friends FWD with suspension and motor mounts, and it "felt" pretty good. NEver tried it at the track though, and thats what counts (since you get a number that will quantify how it "felt" ;) ).
Just my 2 cents, I have very little FWD experience...
