Can a fuel pump 'be going out'? Isn't it more like if it's good it works if it doesn't work it's out. My car starts and RUNS...just chokes and dies after the car is warm (10-20 min), pull over, wait, a few min, start it up again and go. To me it feels like something is stopping the gas all of the sudden. I've been told ignition module...distributer not cap mind you..I think I have it narrowed down to 2 things (NOT a mechanic)lol. The fuel filter and or the spark plug wires. Here's why..fuel filter cuz I have been letting my car sit alot over the past few years, not saying I didn't drive it at all, averaged about 1 every 3 months or so..give or take. Wires cuz someone told me 2 of my plug wires were/are finger loose. My mom took it to FIRESTONE..and they're trying to tell her $400.00+, new pump new filter, flushing system and who knows what else.
ANY suggestions on the 2 choices I have????

a fuel filter is a likely cause, and its pretty cheap to fix especially if u do it urself...and yea, unless some1 comes out and says otherwise, a fuel pump either works or it doesnt....

It depends on the type of electric fuel pump. Some gradually fade over the years, and some just quit. If its a mechanical pump, they tend to fail all at once when the diaphragm gets a hole or crack.
I suggest (like Jessica85 said) that its probably the fuel filter. It could be all of the above you listed, but your description of how its running suggests fuel filter
