I just bought this 1987 Honda accord from this guy from New york. He told me it had a small Power steering leak and that he had to top off every few day. I have had the car for a week and a half and now I am putting a whole bottle in every day. I took a look and it looks like my boot is cracked and that is were it is leaking from. I took the car to Pepboy and they gave me the Girls quote (yes, I am female) that I need to have my whole Rack and Pinion, and steering gears changed out. I got the book and see that I can change out the boot. Does anyone have any ideas for me. I work on my own car all the time, but I have been sick and cant get up under the car right now. The main thing I need to know is should the fluid being going through the boot or does it actually sound like an inner seal like that jerk at the shop said?

The boot is just to keep dirt and debris from damaging the seal. You can reseal them but you need some special tools to install the seals without damaging them.I would just install a rebuilt rack.Carl
