Ok my 3kgt SL has 2 1/2 piping cat back no cat, no nothing, except for a flowmaster mufler. The car as of now is WAY WAY TOO LOUD. I took it back to the place that did it. THey ordered a 24 inch glasspack resonator and told me not to worry about a thing. They are fixign it for free, what sound should i expect? Alot quieter? Also, with the set up i have now i get very nasty squeal soudn at higher rpms, is this because i have no resonator? It sounds very nasty at past 4 grand. Flowmaster 40 Series on there....... What shoudl i expect with that "glasspack resonator" isntalled?

It will get quieter...how much is impossible to say. Just wait until you get it, drive it around for a few days, and see if you are satisfied with it.

A loud ass squeal at high rpms makes me think a drivebelt is on the way out. Or maybe just loose. After I got my timing belt, water pump, etc replaced, the mechanic didn't tighten the alternator belt enough and the first corner out of the parking lot I noticed it. Funny thing was he heard it and just waited outside for me to come back and then he said, "Well I thought I had revved it high enough" I was actually happy to hear that he wouldnt beat on my car like I do :)

You could wait another 10k I think but you shoudl save up because its needed.

would changing the timing belt now help me down the road with this servicing and eliminate the squeal ? so then in 10k i will do it all besides timing belt?

by the way the squealing was there at high rpms with even my stock exhaust just got louder cuz it all got louder, andi noticed when im in drive at open throttle there is no squeal so it HAS to be the belt, next question, could this be another belt besides the timing?

The nasty noise past 4k rpm is the exhaust. I just put a tt catback on my car and it gets "buzzy" at 3500rpm. I plan on doing some work to the exhuast to fix that and to make it a little louder. I have the active exhaust valve opened right now and its too damn quiet. lol

I sincerely doubt it's the timing belt that is squealing since the Cam side is toothed and the water pump doesn't put that much stress on the other side of the belt.

It's probably the assesory belt (the one driving the alternater, air con, etc...) or the belt tensioner pully. Open the hood and see if you can here any squeaks from the left side of the car.

Put in a resonator. Thats what I am gonna do. Oh and if you really want to hear the buzz, rev it to 5500 and let off.:p

haha i had the resonator put on today by the shop that did my exhaust, they did it for free! they put a 24 inch glasspack resonator where the cat used to be (aroudn in that area) and WOW did it change things. My exhaust sounds EXCELLENT! It is about 20% louder than stock and is SO deep , just a nice crisp clean deep sound. Oh by the way, my old setup blew both of my rear speakers, thats how loud is was. GET THE RESONATOR!!!

Good to know. Maybe that will help the sound of mine. I got to make some adjustments to my exhaust anyhow so the res will come soon.

finally eliminated that squeal, it was very simple. I took my resonator off of my intake about 1 month ago and never noticed the loud squeal. But i put the resonator back on today and all sounds peaceful once again.

If you were getting a squeal from removed intake resonator then you had a leak. I havent had my intake resonator on in over 2 years and do not have a squeal from it.
