2002 Yukon interior light issue

Our interior lights work fine if you use the remote unlock function. but, if you just open a door, the lights will not come on.

Stupid suggestion...one that you probably already checked...but just in case--is the dome light button (which I believe is located right below and next to the headlight switch/knob) not pushed in (or is it out--I forget if pushing the button in turns the interior lights on or off)?
