Which Tires to get

Its coming time to replace my tires on a 2000 Silverado Z71. It has the stock 245/75/16's on it, but I wanna go to a bigger size. I'm debating between 265/75/16 or the what seems to be popular size on this forum of 255/85/16. What are the benefits and disadvantages of both. Now for the tires them selves I can't decide between the BFG AT KO's or the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's. Any and all help would be appreciated. thank you.

One of the benifits of going to the 255/85/16 is the added ground clearance. A couple of disadvantages are the loss in get up and go and most likely a decrease in fuel mileage because of the size difference ESPECIALLY from a 245/75/16. I would check into what gears you have before you get such a tall tire as the 255/85/16 is (33.3" tall when new........well the BFG MT is anyhow.)

had the revo's 265/75 not overly impressed with traction in mud but good ride and very quiet.

I have the 255/85r16 in the Mud Brute. I looked up the specs on these and they are about a inch and a half taller than the 265/75 Brutes. I wanted to get as much clearance as i could so that's why i went tall and skinny. I had to do just a little bit of front fenderwell trimming on the passenger side only to make them fit without any lift. BTW the Brutes are excellent in the mud and muck.

and they are very good in snow and mut and the price is ok one thing more they are made in japan

Since when does BFG suck? And bridgestone duelers depending on what kind you get (A/T, M/T) are very good tires as well. I worked selling/mounting/fixing tires for 10 years... You definately get what you pay for.

I wasn't crazy about my revo's but one nice thing; they have a thick sidewall and hold up to abuse well. I lived in a new subdivision and gouged a sidewall with a piece of steel and had no problems.

Michelin LTX 265/70/16 these are great tires. i have about 60,000 miles on thes and still have 1/2 the tread left. you get order them from sam's club for about 160.00 but.....you spend 9.99 per tire to balance mount and road hazzard.....but the trick is that if they don't have your tires done in 1 hr or less then you get back the 9.99 per tire. i dropped my truck off on a saturday at noon.... let's just say thaT i DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY THE 9.99 PER TIRE.

Stay away from bridgestone tires. I had a set a few years ago and the sidewalls bulged out after they were a year old. Took them to the dealer and they refused to warrant them. Complained to Bridgestone direct and they said it was the dealers problem. I ended up replacing them and paying the cost myself. Needlsess to say it wasn't Bridgestone.

I have a set of Bridgestone Revo's 265/75/16 and love them. The traction is good and the ride is smooth and quiet. You should check out www.tirerack.com and research the tires there. They both get good reports from users, but depending on what you do, there are a lot of people that like the Revo's better.

What do you want to do with the truck? On road, off road, towing/hauling?

sorry i havent responded sooner the computer is acting up. I'm mainly gonna be onroad with some light offroading. I'm in NJ so I need a tire thats pretty good in the snow. I do some light towing 2 ATV's so I dont need a heavy duty tire.

go with bridgestone...i would say bfgs if u were going to be doin more offroad

Bridgestones Duelers are a decent tire for the functions you outlined. I had them as my last set. I have similar uses as you (less snow here in San Diego, tho :) ). But if you are not married to the whole BFG/Bridgestone idea, you might consider the Cooper Discoverer ATR ... I'm running these now ... more aggressive tread, yet extremely quiet on the freeway ... great in snow and maderate offroad conditions ... they wear slow ... and are well-priced--less expensive than the Duelers in my case. Overall, a better value than the Bridgestones IMO. :2cents:

REVO's kick ass. I've never done a side by side of these two tires obviously but I'll put my money on the Bridgestone's, not only because I own them but before we bought them I did a lot of research. In the mud they throw that shit everywhere but they do what they're suppose to. Didn't get to test them out in snow much but they were good in a couple inches and always got me through some big piles. The performance in rain exceeds any other A/T tire out there. I can't say that braking is just as good as on a dry road, but it's damn close. Just becareful if your a fast driver on a gravel road, these fuckers throw rocks with a habit. My dad now has these tires too, he had Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on before that and you wouldn't believe how much of a difference the Bridgestones' made, not just in traction everywhere but the ride quality is much better, of course I've never had anything good to say about Goodyear. I can't say much about the BFG's but a few friends do have them and they're definately not a bad tire.

Hi, I'm w/ sierra99 on this one.I work in tires and have seen people get some incredible mileage out of the after market Michelin tires (not the oe ones ribbed style).GO somewhere that has both styles you like and compare side by side look at the sipes,tread design,and feel them,the michelins feel softer squishieron the tread lugs than other tires but somehow last longer.Also the sipes go all the way down to the tread bars for awsome traction untill there worn out.(most tires dont have this) If your dead set on your choices I'd go w/ the BFGs.Siped good and last long (I've had them before they were KOs)plus I think BFG + Michelin are married companies now.

of course I've never had anything good to say about Goodyear.

I have one good thing to say about them and thats all. I got my whole set for $325. Other than that, they suck compared to my Coopers.
