Anyone else seen it yet? I'm just gonna come right out and say it. It's ugly. Its a 4 door passenger car. First Pontiac ruins the GTO name(by means of it being a sport compact now), now this? I'm so glad I chose Ford.

I agree but you gotta admit it looks a lot better than the Magnum. And it is packing 340hp stock so I gotta give Dodge props for that, the only real down side I see to it is the weight. Damn things a tank at 4100lbs.

Look at it this way though. When a 30+ year old car is revived, wouldnt you expect to have some heritage look to it? Kinda like this...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/9441468chr4.jpg
Plus, whats with the truck grill? Its a car!

O I totally agree. Thats been my complaint with the GTO. I think much more time needs to be spent in paying tribute to a vehicles heritage if your gonna bring it back. You gotta admit though its a lot better that that fwd dodge omni piece of crap they came out with in the mid 80's.

Dodge is too hung up on their truck grilles... It looks nice on the trucks, but it makes the cars look like crap. Or at least make it less tall, sorta like the viper. Its not too bad on the Charger, but still... its not like you're jeep or BMW or anything. A grille is not a good trademark for dodge. There are innumerable other styling issues that I don't like on that car.
The main problem I had with these cars is.. where is the big mouth? All the old pony cars had short and wide grilles... the camaro:

mustang:

cuda:

gto:

charger:
http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/dodge-charger/images/dodge-charger-1968a.jpg
the last camaro had no 'mouth' whatsoever, the new charger's is almost square, and the gto has the typical pontiac small grille. Ford lost the big grille in the 80s, but has slowly brought it back. Thats one reason why I really like the 2005s. I find that to be such a defining feature of the car, but I have never heard anyone else say it. The 2005's finally have the grille back to the original style.
I'd really like to see a remake of the cuda. Too bad plymouth is dead.

yo that new charger wouldn't be too bad if it was two door. use your imagination, two longer doors and a better grill and it would look nice. there must be some production reason for four doors.

I agree.. the grille and the taillights need a complete reconstruction. Nothing to be salvaged there... I did a bit more work on the side... Shortened the sides and dropped it a couple inches, the back wheel/tire is also bigger now:
http://www.turboslut.net/choppedcharger2.jpg
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/94414coupecharger.jpg
I think it looks a lot better... looks pretty good like this, with the shorter taillights they don't look all that bad, not quite as chrysler 300ish. Maybe I'll try to do something with the grille... but then again, what do i care, its not gonna be built and the one that is looks like ass.
Man, those few changes I made make a huge difference.

Much better as a two dr. Don't know what dodge was thinking making a charger a 4dr.
340hp is a little lame for a 4100lb car but on the same note I think 300hp Mustang is just as lame.

I like the car don't get me wrong but I wanna see ford put more NA HP in the GT. Plain and simple, maybe Im greedy...... so be it. I think 300hp is just not enough to keep up with whats hitting the streets from GM and Chrysler. For the price its not a bad buy at all, but getting back to your question. Hell yes I can't wait for the new Cobra to come out. The question here is how much. If Ford can produce a 460HP Cobra surely they can come better that 300HP in the GT. Hell put the Mach 1 motor in the new GT's.

Yeah i guess, but its nowhere near the same thing. Its gotta be parallel to the headlights.. that is more of a front lip spoiler/grille combo than the pony car mouth.

Surely you don't expect nearly a 100hp gain from 2004 to 2005? Thats huuge. I think goin to 300hp is huge. I expected maybe 280.
2004 cobra: 390hp, 2004 GT 260hp... 390/260 = 1.5
2006 cobra 460hp, 2006 GT 300hp.. 460/300 = 1.5333
They're keepin the same ratio between the two. I think that is logical.

at least the new charger has 50 more hp than the 05 tangs do.Why would ford put some weak ass 300hp in the new mustang, knowing the new gto has 400hp.SSDD is what that is. they should have revived the 351,instead of putting a 4.6 in the new mustang.I havent investigated, but maybe that dodge has a better interior than the new mustangs.wouldnt be hard at all to do.At least the new GTO is faster and stronger than any made before.Dodge and Ford cant say that about the charger or mustangs.

The new mustangs are the fastest yet...
Quickest mustang from the old days was the 71 Boss 351, which ran around a 14.1 quarter. New mustang GTs are right around that number. So they're just as fast as they ever were, and the cobras are by far the quickest mustangs of all time.
Dodge Charger has 50 more hp but is much heavier. No doubt a mustang is quicker. And MUCH better looking.
The GTO is quicker, and good for them. My question to GM : why would you make the new GTO, in its best form, have 60hp less than the Cobra? And cost the same ammount? And look like a grand am?.. no competition what-so-ever.
The 4.6 is a phenominal motor. I wish it had some more displacement, but I'll forgive it. The Cobra's supercharger will more than make up for any displacement shortcomings, and around 300hp is just fine for the GT. I'll bet that number comes up to 320 in the coming years, and there will be more 'special edition' versions as well(maybe a Boss version? Or a continuation of the Mach 1s?) which will probably be around 350-375hp.
The new vettes are nice, but a Cobra with the same money invested would eat one for breakfast. But stock for stock, sure the Corvette is better. I have no problem with corvettes, they're impressive. One of the only vehicles I like from GM right now.
I'm not sure what problem you have with the Mustang's interior, I think its pretty nice. Nothing special, but nothing to sneeze at:

I personally like the Mustang's better. The charger's is really bland.
I have a feeling you're just doing your best to be a troll. I find it very hard to believe that anyone who is a fan of muscle cars, pony cars, or even just american cars and knows anything about them would be pleased with what Dodge is calling the new Charger. Its a Chrysler 300. With a dodge grille and badges. Its big, 4 door family/luxury sedan. It is not a pony car. It is not a muscle car.

The Dodge is porky. 4100lb is way to heavy IMO for a performance car and a 4dr at that. Like the GTO it pays very little tribute to its herritage.
Getting back to the mustang. Outside of the fact that it is a much better built car and priced right, the one thing thats keeping it in the HP game is that its a much lighter car than the other two. Now with that being said, it still needs more power because Im gonna tell you whats gonna happen. This HP race among the big three looks like its gonna get ugly. Somebody and its probably gonna be Chevy is gonna put out a new sports car thats comparable in price and weight to the mustang and then there gonna slap an LS2 in it. And if they take there time and resurrect a kick ass design.
GAME OVER
You'll have to buy the Cobra then, a 300hp GT won't even be an option.

How is 300 hp weak? It's nothing to sneeze at and the price on it can't be overlooked. So what if the new GTO has more hp? The Mustang's looks are better and is the better bang for the buck.
they should have revived the 351,instead of putting a 4.6 in the new mustang.
The 4.6 prooved itself with the 03/04 Cobras showing it can run with the best of them. Besides, the GT-40's 5.4 is going in the new Cobra and that will be enough.

You seem to be putting a whole lot of faith and praise into the GTO as if the Mustang doesn't stand a chance against it. I said it before and I'll stay it again, just wait for the 2007 SVT Cobra. GTslOw

Yes I have and I like them very much. I only wish their price tag wasn't so much.
The 4.6 is a phenominal motor. I wish it had some more displacement, but I'll forgive it.
Well the 5.0 in the GT-R was basically the 4.6 with a little more ci and it showed what it could do. The 5.7 V-10 made a couple of years ago was nothing but a 4.6 + 2 extra cylinders and it made 460 hp stock. We also can't forget the 5.4 that's in the GT-40 which is the 4.6's bigger cousin. It's safe to say the 4.6 has a big future and lots of potential ahead of it.

Seen the 500HP vettes yet anybody?
Yes I have and I like them very much. I only wish their price tag wasn't so much.
The 4.6 is a phenominal motor. I wish it had some more displacement, but I'll forgive it.
Well the 5.0 in the GT-R was basically the 4.6 with a little more ci and it showed what it could do. The 5.7 V-10 made a couple of years ago was nothing but a 4.6 + 2 extra cylinders and it made 460 hp stock. We also can't forget the 5.4 that's in the GT-40 which is the 4.6's bigger cousin. It's safe to say the 4.6 has a big future and lots of potential ahead of it.

oh so they do look like crap inside sorry my mistake.Go get in a 2005 mustang, then step out and get into a new gto,and you will see the difference. The interior of a new mustang is a joke.I own two fords a 97 crown vic and a 2000 zx2 and like them just fine so dont give me any shit about not liking ford,i just give credit where credit is due. They screwed it all up and if the 4.6 is so phenominal, why do they all start smoking and rattling before 50k huh?I cant tell you how many grandpa's and ma's ive seen driving the roads in crown vics and town cars that smoke when accelerating.Every single one ive had the pleasure of working on had problems like bad intake manifolds, clattering, compression uneven with less than 50k miles and so on.They fall apart face it.I own one okay its not too bad but its a little fish in an ocean of piranas.

So far all the big names have been coming out with a retro type muscle car. Pontiac revived the GTO as a rebadged sedan looking thing. Dodge revived the charger as some..rebadged truck/hearse thing. But Ford comes out with a totally redesigned car and borrows classic STYLING rather than attempting to revive some dead name of a flagship car. I don't see a rebadged Taurus being called a Fairlane. Just throwing that out there.

Ok wait a minute. First of all I know you didn't come over here and start talking about rattle traps with a picture of a firebird in your sig. Talk about king of the rattletraps. I've owned 2 Iroc-Zs and a Trans'am every last one was a damn rattletrap. On top of that you wanna talk interiors. Every F body made the interior starts to fall apart as if by design. So don't even try to compare the two. I quit taking the T-tops out because I got tired of pieces of the headliner deteriorating and blowing in my eyes. So don't give me any shit. I'll push a ford before I drive another POS chevy anyday. :nono:
By the way zx2 escorts suck as a rule.

And its your choice and preference to drive what you wish. But i assure you my trans am isnt a rattle trap and it has no head liner to blow pieces into my face.Sounds like you got a piece of crap one if you ask me.You would feel pretty bad my old car with a 35 year old engine block walk all over you on the road.My car has been through more than your mustink will ever see.
And my zx2 is a good car very efficient and inexpensive to maintain.

Guys, don't resort to bashing his car or makes/models, just talk about the cars being discussed. He's trying to be a dick and he's getting the response he wants. Just be calm, prove that he's wrong with simple facts, and he'll disappear... this goes for all forum trolls. He had no response to what I said, because it is obvious. Either that or just ignore them.
Do moderators have the ability to delete a single post within a thread? That would come in very handy with stuff like this.

Oh believe me, I have no problem with the 4.6. I love it. I think its the best thing to come out of Ford lately. Ford did a very good job on that motor.
I hope the 5.4 starts showing up in Mustangs. I'd like to see a supercharged 5.4 in the cobras, and a N/A 5.4 in a Mach1/Bullit/Boss/etc type car.

It's said the 5.4 will be in the 2007 Cobra but won't be as deadly as the GT-40 version. What I wouldn't mind seeing either is the 6.0 V10 that was in the A/C Cobra car. A Mustang with 600 hp and 500 lb/tq would be an un-godly car.

i removed the headliner carpet padding,ac system, computer system, and any non vital weight to achieve 3100 pounds with me in it.The headliner just looked like crap compared to cold steel and rivets wich makes the top of the car.
Im not trying to start no crap with you guys ive always wanted an old mustang to restore but cant afford it.Im looking at all three cars wondering what happened to them all.Now im just trying to move on to acceptance as not to sound like an old man.the new mustangs are okay, but still doesnt deserve the name.Nor does the gto,or the charger.

I think the new mustang is the most deserving of the name in a while. Its got a potent v8, it really looks like a pony car, its cheap, rwd with a live axle, handles well(believe it or not the old stangs handle pretty damn well for their age).. I really can't figure out how the entire automotive world is so divided on this. Half say its an abomination and doesn't deserve to be a mustang, the other half think its superb. I really have yet to hear a decent arguement against the new mustang.
Its like people forgot entirely the past 30 years of the mustang's history. 300hp is weak? Thats the most the GT has had in a very long time. 1971 to be exact.
Crappy interior is definately not something to disqualify it from being a mustang... Ever been in one before? None of them are especially luxurious, especially the old ones! My seats are basically two pieces of foam perpendicular to each other covered in vinyl!

Dupox if you love it thats fine. I don't dislike it. I like the design, there are some things I would have done differently but hey thats me. Overall I think its a great design and I like the interior shown in this thread a little better that the one I saw in person. Theres something a little different. My only problem is the power. Yes I know 300HP is nothing to sneeze at i know that. I guess it just comes down to what your gonna do with the car. If its a daily driver and your gonna drive it stock 300hp is fine in fact its more than enough. But for somebody like me I would need to get the Cobra. The mod motor in the GT just dosen't have that torque curve that I like. That kind of power can only come from a pushrod or a supercharged 4.6

They made it look really good. sit it next to the gt500 and just look at it when it comes to style they did a good job.But they still took a classic masterpiece and the only ford i ever liked, and tossed it into a blender with a bunch of plastic and a hand me down motor. With the job they did on the design and recreation of the classic mustang, they could have at least took whats under the engine compartment more seriously. That was my favorite car from ford and they dissapointed me.I have a feeling our elder ford mustang enthusiasts feel the same way i do about it.Its a good body reproduction, with a taxi cab motor in it.My crown vic has a 4.6 and i have looked into every possible HP upgrade, and it doesnt compare with what i can do with my firebird, simply because the cubic inches of displacement. My firebird is in transition going from a +400 horse 350,and its getting a 400 cid pontiac engine, with ground down 6x heads.A guaranteed 12 second 1/4 mile or better. So even if my car was a rattle trap, where is the competition? Its not in some 300 horse 4.6 sorry thats just physics.

I personally think the Charger looks like a 4 door new mustang. To me the slopes are very smilar on the front and back of the car. A different grille and taillights and the cars are very similar.

Not really great comparison pictures, but not too far off. Of course there are differences, but I think the overall shape is the same.
The dodge is not worth the price tag and neither is the Mustang IMO.

well the z06 is the one with 500hp, the coupe only has 400 with the ls2 motor right. 300 hp is actually the most hp ever in a main production mustang, the boss 351 wasnt one, its kinda rare. that fact is straight form ford themselves. i was kind of skeptical about the motor myself because of the size but all ive ever heard about it is the tremendous potential it has. and yeah the 06/07 cobra will be badass, its got the 5.4 with a S/C and im not sure but i think the reason its not as powerful as the ford gt engine is because the underdrive pulley is located differently, still has a ton of power for the mid to low 30k price tho, 465hp 495tq. thats what im planning on buying when i get outta college, lets hope that happens lol.

I heard the same thing myself. I also heard it won't be hard to fix that so you'll get the full 500 hp like the GT-40.

If it doesn't happen, though I'm 99.9% positive it will, you can always get the Saleen S-281E that has 500 hp and 500 lb/tq. Sure you'll have to pay $50,000 for it but it's still cheaper than cars with the same stats.

300 HP in the new GT is just fine
Not many 'stangs over 300 HP. Cobra's from what..1996 and on?
305HP, 320HP, 390HP. And these are the premium 'stangs. The exception if you will, to be compared with the old Bosses and Cobra Jets.
Now if you want to compare today's GT to the old 'stangs, then compare 'em to regular v-8 'stangs. That being said, not many regular v-8 'stangs were over the 300 HP mark.
'67 390 320HP
'68 390 325HP
'69 390 320HP
'70 351 300HP
'71 351 330HP
That's it...that's all. All the regular 302's, 289's, et al.....all under 300HP.
Everything else over 300HP is 'exotic' Cobra Jets, Boss 429's, Hi-Po 289 Shelbys, regular Shelby's, side oiler 427's. So IMO today's 'regular' V-8 'stang, otherwise known as the GT, ranks pretty high with it's predecessors. It's fine as is. 300 HP is nothing to sneeze at either. No need to get crazy with it...no camoro's or firebirds or cudas to compete with. Aftermarket stuff is comin' too. And I bet Ford will tweak it a little each year to get another 10 or 20 HP out of the 3V. If you wanna really wage war with vette's and vipers and 300c's....you'll have to wait for the new Cobra, or buy a used '03 or '04. Again, just my $.02.
