Primera Exhaust??

I have a 1994 Primera GTe....

I live in New Zealand where there are no laws governing us to have CATs in our cars.

I am thinking of getting this taken out as I think the car is too quiet and would like a soft sports exhaust.

Is this a good idea or should I leave the CAT and replace the last muffler with a stainless free flow..

I don't want a muffler that is too loud/and or will drone....

Any comments greatly appreciated....

Thanks in advance

Welcome along fellow Kiwi..:D :D

With mine i changed to a 3" system right through the car with a muffler half way to make it quite. Was way to loud with just the end muffler on.
I brought a stainless "Promuff" muffler for the rear with a 3" outlet .
Car has a nice "deep" sound to it and not a "bark" like you get with others.
If you are doing the exhaust try and get a good air cleaner(K&N etc).

All up it cost $500.00

Cool another kiwi, what part of N.Z. you from ???
I just had the cat taken out it made a bit of a difference performance wise but sounds like crap, (but with the induction noise it doesnt sound to bad ,evens it out)
I would go and talk to a well known exhaust shop, they should be able to help you out...

I'm in Christchurch...

I have talked to a shop (Magoo Mufller) and they have done only one Primera and they said it was really loud...

I just want a sports exhuast with a nice sound...

No droning..and no kidney pounding....

Shall I just replace the last muffler with a free flow stainless one...

What brands are good and what are bad???

The "promuff" muffler i have is made in Palmerston North and they make them to the size etc of what you want.
I told them i wanted a deep noise, nothing loud and he made it in a day or two.
They pack it with a special fibreglass? to keep the noise/sound of what you want and they guarantee it for 3 years.
Had no problems

Hey I live in Christchurch too :D

Not really all that suprising though, given the sheer number of Primeras around here.

:D ...I'm sure if a primera club was started it would really take off here in NZ.
It's the biggest selling import here and you can start to pick them up real cheap.
Just the other day i saw one (P11) ....$9995.00NZ. ($4,070.00 US)....HAD TO PICK MY JAW UP !!!...It was standard, but for that price, you could have heaps of cash left over for wheels/kits..etc.

Yeah that sounds great, only thing is I would be embarassed by my totally stock P10 :) It doesn't even have a boot spoiler!

I'd love to see what you guys have done to your Primeras though

Because I have the GT it has hardened suspension (slightly lower than normal as well)

It has the front spoiler with fog lights, side skirts, rear skirt and rear spoiler...

All that has been added is some 16" Schneider alloys and a CD stacker....

Also a K&N Filter.....

The suspension could still go slightly lower and a front strut brace might also help....but handles like its on rails....

So I can't go much further....

Yeah, more Kiwi Boys. As soon as I get my hands on a scanner I will try and post some pics of my car. It a 92 T4 (4WD). Its Pearl Blue with 17inch Advanti Napoli wheels on 215/40 tyres. Ive added a Simolta Pod Filter (Makes the car sound heaps louder!). No other mods at this stage. Keen to get the thing a little lower. AS you can imagine, 17inch wheels on stock springs, you can nearly walk under the car without ducking! Might also chop out the CAT but Im not to keen on putting a larger exhaust on. Think Ill save my money for a P11 (Ideally one with Variable Valve timing (190hp))! A Primera Car Club would go off! It is the biggest selling Import apart from Subaru Legacy's. Last Month they sold something like 1900 in NZ, thats quite a few for a population of only 3.5 million.

Hey Grunter I've seen your car around :)

If you ever see a totally stock grey P10 flashing it's lights at you, it's probably me :) I won't be flashing my spot lights however, as I DON'T HAVE ANY :( Well I bought a cheap pair recently, but haven't put them on yet.

Still, it's a 2.0 5 Speed SR20DE so I guess that's a start :)

Primera90,I will look out for you,

Or i know a girl that wrote off her hi spec T4
Cheers

I've already bought some spot lights and the switch from another P10 owner. All I have to do is cut the holes in the bumper and hope like hell that the spot lights will have something to mount on to.

A boot spoiler would be nice though :)
