"Check Gages" warning light went on -- all gages seem to be in working order. Next day "ABS" warning light went on. Do I have a short? Some computer glitch? A problem that needs to be addressed immediately? Thanks for any help.

The amber dash light will inform you of system status. If the light is flashing, the controller has detected a fault but is still allowing the ABS system to operate. If the light is on constantly (no flash) the controller has detected a fault and disabled part or all of the ABS system. The front and rear wheel portions may be individually disabled by the controller. The amber warning light refers only to the ABS system; with ABS disabled, the vehicle will still have conventional braking capabilities if that system is not damaged.
I suggest you might want to have a diagnostic scan test done on your car. If you go to a mechanic a test like this can be done for $60-$80 but if you go to a Auto Zone they can scan it for free but you'll more than likely have to take it to a mechanic to get it fix though. A warning light can be anything minor like a glitch or something more serious like a failure of one or more components or giving you a notice it is running at half efficiency so even to be on the safe side have it check.
