that sounds like your PCV valve is shot and that's why you have oil in your air cleaner. Check your bottom end; it's probably shot since it couldn't breathe.

i got the tb off the intake and the intake has a layer of oil in the bottom also

what happened to your engine is the same thing that happened to my dad's jeep, his pcv and breather systems was so badly clogged that it sent oil everywhere b/c the bottom end couldn't breathe; I ended having to rebuild the motor

how much should i need to take apart to get it all out

right now, you might as well go on and take out the entire motor and either rebuild it or replace it w/ a long block assembly. Your bottom end is toasted that even if you machine the heads and put it back together, it'll still spew oil everywhere and chances are, might not run.

bottom end?

your crankshaft, main bearings, rod bearings, etc.; that what I mean by your bottom end

so its all fucked. replace it? could i try to replace the hg and pcv valve or is it completely hopeless

have you done a compression test yet? If it's not at 130 to 150 psi, you could have a bad head gasket and/or bad rings which will in the long run mean take out the motor. If you do just replace the head and PCV, you could run into a situation where the rod or main bearing could start to go b/c they couldn't breathe for quite some time.

no compression. tried to turn it over and here was no compression at all. would the car sitting for a while have much to do with this. i think it may have because it only had 70k

whenever an engine sits up for a while; it's best to change the oil b/c the old oil will have blow-by fumes settle in the oil and it acts like sulfuric acid for your crankshaft, mains and rods; it eats them up. Since your car sat for a while, there's a very good chance that it sitting for a while contributed to it's demise. Your best bet is like I said before either rebuild the motor or put in a long block; never go for junkyard motors, they could be in worse shape than your motor is now.

so get a cheap running car and swap em out
theFREAKnasty82
02-18-2005, 12:55 PM
yeah, that could work to, as long as you know what condition the motor is in, go for it.

what problems should i look for after the quick fix?

before you do an engine swap, find out what the condition of the motor is by doing a compression test, look carefully around the motor and look for any leaks, check all gaskets, intake, exhaust, head, throttle body, make sure that motor's in OK condition, you don't want to have another problem on your hands.

Ya sounds like everyone has hit the nail on the head with your problem.
I have a 1985 with a granny driving 2.5 with 36k on it car is in great condition for being almost 25 years old - new clutch kit / fly wheel - ect... new brakes ... many new others .... i posted it in here already - i am asking 680-700 $ let me know if u want it - i got a guy that offered me 500 but its worth more plus i spent about 300 in parts on it gettin it into a solid turn key car... body is nice engine is nice just need to be cleaned up after the swap from a 2.2-2.5 the 2.2 i had - broke a rod - guess that was my sign to find her a nice engine in good condition... that offer is open to anyone else that may be interested....

if u calculate 36k miles to 20 years to compensate the car - that makes it about 1800 miles a year on the car....

I am in NJ
i wouldnt put a 2.2 in unless it was turbo charged ,... but it would prob be ok for the time being ....... how good of condition is the engine - how many miles an how well was it taken care of?

yeah, I'm sure that'll work, find out how many miles are on it and see if the motor's in ok condition and you should be fine.

try getting it from underneath; there should be enough room between the crossmember to wiggle your arms through.
