Car lurching

Okay, got the alternator switched out yesterday with ease. Now a new problem has surfaced. With moderate to heavy acceleration the transmission seems to be slipping - basically the check engine and ABS lights flash on the car stutters. IF I hold the gas down the car just kind of revs & lurches. THEN, the ABS light stays on and my ABS doesn't work anymore. What in the world is happening? Is the belt tension wrong? Is this a completely separate situation? For complete disclosure, I also put in a new air filter....

oh boy, big trouble now...all the life has been sucked out of my blazer. The battery is sooo dead that it doesn't register. Now I am stuck at work...

I drove the car yesterday and this morning the battery indicator showed no signs of problems...why would it be okay one second then dead as a door nail the next after switching out an alternator???
