DPFE Sensor Question 2001 Ranger

I have a 2001 Ranger, after check engine light and 80 bucks later for diagnostics, I find that the DPFE Sensor is not registering the voltage correctly. Estimate was 400 dollars for labor and replacement part, and I think I was getting gouged. My question is, if I buy the DPFE Sensor and change it myself (which looks pretty simple) will the engine automatically set the codes back to zero and kill the check engine light? Or does it have to be put back on the analyzer to be corrected? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The 'check engine' light will go out by itself on any OBDII compliant vehicle (1996+) once the condition that caused it is clear/corrected. It may take many miles of driving and a long time to do so, but it will. You can speed the process up by pulling the ECM fuse or neg battery terminal for 1/2hr or so. This will clear it. Another way to clear it is with a scan tool. The cheapy $39 generic OBDII code reader I have from harbor freight tools clears out the check engine light for you. That DPFE sensor is a snap to change out!! DIY & save major bucks! They are a common failure part on fords.
