hey man, i have a 96 monte but it might be the same. the fuel filter in my monte is under the car in the middle of the fuel line. follow ur fuel line from ur tank and u should see it. its about the size of a small oil filter. one end of it clips onto the line and the other end u just need 2 wrenchs to take it off. make sure u havea bucket under it for it will leak a little when u take it off. but not to worry it wont drain the whole tank. hope i was of some help to you. later

I've heard that you are supposed to de-pressureize the fuel system in 2000-up MC's. I'm not entirely sure so, I took mine to a dealer to have replaced, only cost 65 bucks parts and labor.

...but the filter would have only cost you between $9 - $15.00.
You relieve the fuel system pressure by: removing your gas cap, then, under your hood, take a small screwdriver, a key, a pencil, (anything with a small tip) and release the pressure from your schrader valve (looks like a tire valve on your fuel rail). Have a rag handy when you do that to catch the fuel spray. relieving the pressure before hand, prevents the fuel from spraying all over you when you detach the filter.
