id like to compare these fwd cars in overall performance. i guess you could also have some modifications, like under 500 in mods. maybe a little more money for the se-r, since it has the least power.
92-93 acura integra gsr
92-95 vw corrado vr6
92-96 honda prelude si
93-97 ford probe gt
95-97 nissan sentra se-r
basically any car thats not too far off in performance, similar in price, no turbo, and fwd. u can add cars that you feel can compete in this cetegory.

I kind of like the Preludes. I know several people who own them, and they're pretty fast stock, but don't really respond well to mods.

The GSR has the most potential and is probably the quickest...but to be different you could choose the Corrado...I think it looks better IMHO

The Celica should be in here, even though it's not that fast in stock form. The Chevy Cavalier Z24 should be up there too.
This is a pretty popular segment with a lot of great entries from the late 90's. My favorite would have to be the 3rd gen. Acura Integra. It's too bad that they are way more expensive than the rest of the sport compacts, they get stolen left and right, and they have a pretty bad reputation among car enthusiasts. The Prelude isn't much different. For these reasons, I'd probably go with a 95-98 Nissan 200SX SE-R. The aftermarket is growing pretty quickly for these things. They're cheap, reliable, and great sleepers.

the fastest car there probrably that 92-93 GSR. but remember nissan speeder, those are the B17 powered 2nd gen tegs, not the B18 powered 3rd gens. i'm not sure what the aftermarket for those cars are since they are quit rare.
i honestly think the SE-R is the best bang for the buck. they come with a LSD stock, weight as much as the GS-R if not less, and you have the SR20DET from the pular gtir swap ready.

Why only NA and FWD? What is "compact"?

Im curious as to why another MR2 Turbo owner is so interested in a 15-16 sec compact....

VW Corrado, it actually has some character, Plus, you don't see one every 5 minutes.

i was just looking at cars for sale online, im not really looking to get anything right now. i thought it would of been interesting to compare cars in this class, cause if i were to get a beater, it would probably be something like the cars i mentioned.

My thoughts exactly. The ITR has one of the best handling FWD chassis out there and they are solid performers with an awesome aftermarket. I really like the Corrado and the SE-R but the later Probe GT isn't even on the same page as the other cars.

Nope, we call the Type R the Type R. The GS-R is the Japanese model SiR, with 8 less horsepower.

First off the 90-93 GSR has a 1.7 dohc-vtec its hondas basterd motor. the 94-01 GSR's have a 1.8 liter dohc-vtec motors. Ok now look and pay attention kids....The Type R is a Type R. The SiR is the Civic Si in US standards. The Japanese GSR is the XSi, they only made them a few of them from 90-93 from what i can remmember. The Type R dominates over the GSR.

well, to be more specific, the first gsr models only came out in 92 and 93 for the US. i think the type r yrs for the US was 97-01.
my question is, is the 90-93 integra chassis similar to the 94-01 integra chassis in any way? how about its suspension? would they be interchangable?

Im not exactly sure the main reason i see is because its better to make a car with a 4 banger not have to put the power through a transmission, then a drive shaft, then a rear axle. Its so much easier to put power through a trans straight to the wheels. Imo AWD cars are better for putting power to the ground than a rwd or fwd car. Ive seen hatchback civics with b16 turbo swaps smoke cobras.

I think it's safe to say that civic had alot more money put into it than the cobra did. Assuming the cobra wasn't stock either.

actually you dont have to put a lot of money into civics to make it quick. the amount of hp you get out of a bigger engine is greater per dollar, but cars with smaller engines are also lighter.

I know damn well the cobra wasnt stock it ran a 10.85 and the civic ran a 10.20. I know a guy up near baltimore with a crx running a sohc vtec turbo running 10's. He spent 400 for the car, 1200 for the turbo (supra turbo) he got 2 turbos and an intercooler so it was a good deal. He spent 700 for the motor and trans and other accesories motor mounts, shift linkage, racing seats, rims and so on which was like 3500. Thats a 10 second car for under 10,000 compare that to a 35,000 cobra.

#1. who couldn't get a $400-500 car, drop about $10k into it, and run 10's. You know what you could do with a '91 mustang you got for $400?
That's right, smoke check anything out there.
compare cars around the same msrp, and the same amount of $ dropped into 'em if you wanna see who's got the biggest balls.

I work at a mustang performance shop making underdrive pulleys, intakes, intercoolers and 10,000 on a mustang can go pretty damn quick if the car has no motor, you want forced induction and depends on whether or not its street or drag. Its also not easy to find a good mustang body let alone one with a running motor for 400.
Theres one up here but its a 4 banger, which means you have to change the suspension, drive train, and most of the shift and steering linkages. The body has alot of rust which would take body repair which can get expensive. After all that you need the motor, probably supercharger or turbo, its not cheap to make a 5.0 run 10's on all motor. Yeah it can be done but its alot easier, imports are a hell of a lot lighter, easier to get power out of, and you can get performance parts for about the same price depending on what it is.
I was comparing the 2003 cobra with fords second greatest motor tech (under the ford gt) to a 4 banger with a motor from a 94 civic, both forced induction, both running in the 10's. I have another friend running an all motor 93 hatchback with a jdm b16a swap, type r cams. full header back, and weapon-r intake, and hes running 14's. 500 for the car, it was 1100 for the motor like 1200 for the cams intake and header, exhasut pipe and a apexi muffler. Thats under 4000 and he can run with a stock gt. Domestics have there good points but imports have good points too.

Integra GSR is by far the best in speed and dependability. Plus its an Acura.
