rpm

I recently bought a 01 grand prix gt 3.8 It idles at about 1000 rpm in park and in drive and when driving 65mph it is at about 2200rpm. Is this normal or is this high. If this is high what might be the cause and the fix.

My 95 GTP is about the same at 65 and sometimes idles near 1000 or fluctuates between 600-1000. But i dont have the same engine, i have a 3.4. Im going to check my idle air control valve and im hoping that is it. Im not sure if ur 3.8 is the same, but if so, maybe u could check that? Or it could be a vacuum leak, not too sure, but i hope this helps.

are you at P or D when your are idling. When im at P i idle at around 700 and in P it is about 1000. I usully cruze at around 2000 rpm. Can it be the gas?
